My "special needs" kitten got a broken leg today

I came home and the kitten was just lying in her bed - refused to move. her leg was swollen and he can't stand up. She has Cerebellar Hypoplasia - her Cerebellum is not developed (and won't ever) so she shakes a lot and wobbles when she tries to walk.

X-ray at the vet shows that the mom obviously broke it with her teeth while playing. It looks like the teeth clamped down and then twisted the leg. So, kitty has to be isolated from mom now.

I'm really sorry to hear about your kitten. Did the vet put her leg in a cast? I hope that she recovers well and soon.

I lived for a while with a family who had (among other pets) a kitten who was the product of a mother-son mating. She was the dearest thing, although developmentally disabled. She would sit next to me on the couch and purr, and if I didn't notice she would increase the volume of the purr until she was squeaking with the effort. It was impossible not to love the precious dear.

I hope your little one recovers speedily and fully.

i wonder though if the mother cat was playing.
it's not uncommon for animals to dispatch their offspring if they sense an abnormality.

was kitten born like that or did the condition develop after birth?
if the latter, it's more likely to be cerebellar abiotrophy, which is genetic,
and if so you might consider getting so parents and siblings spayed/neutered

First time I ever heard a squirrel recommending a Rottweiler. What's the world coming to?! Dogs living with Squirrels, mass hysteria.

r2d2 - - Yes all my kitties are spayed/neutered, shots, dewormed, microchipped, FIV, FeLV tested before being adopted out.

I am going to keep this girl.

Her mom was vaccinated at the shelter (grrrrrr) before I picked her up. She was pregnant. 3 babies died. This one is the only one left. It is CH.

I'm a fanatical cat person, so Slightly, I'm going to look for squirrel recipies.

Back to the topic on hand. Two of my babies had problems with either fractured or broken legs. They had casts put on and afterwards they went back to enjoying life to the max. One, passed on due to old age, but the second Mitzy is still shooting around the house demanding fuss, attention and play. So I'm sure that your little baby will be fine.

^^^Here you go gang. The recipe calls for 2-3 squirrels, but I'm sure that SOOI is fat enough to meet that requirement. Best wishes to your cat Eliza.

2-3 squirrels, cut up
3-4 celery stalks
2 onions, chopped
13 small carrots
1 can or three quarters cup corn
1 can stewed tomatos
1-2 clove garlic, chopped

2 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. oregano
Water

Directions:

Boil mix until squirrels are tender. Refrigerate overnight to meld flavors. Serve the next day.
Brown squirrels in skillet with small amount of fat. Place squirrel in pot and cook until tender. Saute onion, green pepper, celery, and garlic in drippings in skillet; add rice, squirrel, potatoes, seasonings, and enough liquid to cook rice and potatoes.
Cover; simmer slowly until tender.

Servings: 12

Substitute Squirrel for Kitten and you've got the perfect recipe there.
Just remember that you'll need to add 30 minutes to the cooking time so that pussy comes out all nice and tender.
