Don't know if this has been discussed already, but I've been thinking of doing something.

What are the chances that a scammer will fall for the email lottery scam? What if I send them either the message (as if I become the scammer) or just let the two scammers scam at each other? (boy that's good poetry)

Most of them are pretty familiar with the various types of scams and would probably recognize the format. That said, a lot of baits are similar in structure to their scams, but they don't tend to grasp that since we never ask for money.

Along those lines, if you are thinking of trying to get money from a scammer, please don't; that would make you a scammer, and then we would have to bait you. Wink It's also against our guidelines to discuss that sort of thing (cash baiting).

I bet any lad would like that: get a free new format to use as your own. And that's why it's so ridiculously amusing to feed them fake formats Laughing.

Believe me, I'm still a novice and have NO intentions of trying to scam them out of money. I know my limits Wink

Not really. It wouldn't be MY email, but more like another lad's email. Say you receive an email saying you've won the lottery. Pass that to your lad (using another email). Would he go for it?

You haven't brought any new formats, you just "recycled" an email and sent it to him.

Actually I kinda like the idea of giving a lad a new format to use. But a special one, not just with poor grammar and spelling mistakes, but actual lines of text in between stating that this is nothing more than a scam. If the lad never reads their script, they would never notice it. But I guess this is all just wishful thinking. *sigh*

By "new" I meant new for the lad's toolbox. A script he doesn't already have. Or alternatively he already has it, but this one is written in better English or has some other improvements.

Edited to add @Happy_Slacker: Some of us have been doing exactly what you described for a good while with varying results. I recall the South African astronaut that spawned a few threads in here too. Personally I got my best results with selling gold derrieres.

Just because they may have bad english and are unfamiliar with other cultures does not mean all lads are total idiots, a lottery scam would most certainly be something any lad would be familiar with, IMHO. My guess is scammers would be able to recognize other scams pretty easily because they think like scammers. The reason they can be baited easily is that they assume everyone is out for personal gain alone like they are, and have trouble imagining someone messing around with them without financial motives.

I occaisionally use a variation of the OP's idea for cheap entertainment. Many lad scripts involve bringing in a barrister / financier or whatever at some level. At that point I'll sometimes find a totally different barrister's message and reply to it as if it's the original lad's boi, making sure to cc: the lad. It usually makes both lads' blood boil and often stimulates rants along the lines of "all Africans are scarmers, don't believe Africans". Sometimes you can get a lad to start using ridiculous codes to ensure security, like the nuts / goats/ latrines quote in my sig.
