Hi there,
I have been chatting with what I assumed was a 27 year old half american half nigerian(nice touch huh) woman for about a week. She had responded to my personal ad on craiglist. I am very wary about craiglist, since so many apartments seemed to be owned by nigerians(yeah and bob's your uncle). Anyhow she seemed very legit, well spoken and I mean excellent grammar, nice pics. Although she seemed to pick and choose what questions she would answer. Everything was going great, but unlike most folks I have an ace up my sleave. My best friend of nearly eighteen years, who lives in the apartment above me happens to work in the FBI's Fraud division. I started to tell him about my conversations with her. Next thing I know he telling me what she would say in days to come. He said she would ask for a sizable sum typically 250 to 1000 dollars US. He told me not to send any money, not that I would. If I refused he said she would be compliant, but ask for a much smaller amount about 20 to 50 dollars. Well low and behold he was right nearly word for word. First she asked for a thousand dollars for a plane ticket to america. When I said no she said thats ok, but asked if I could spare fifty dollars for food and to give an offering to the church. I told her if she could find the money else where I would gladly payback her loans for her once I picked her up from the airport. This was not good enough for her. I have since cut ties with her. The name she used was Mary Rita Jones, her email is [email protected]. Her backstory: was born in the US, lived in austin TX, until her father died, Her mother moved back to nigeria and she went with her. Her step father tried to coerce her into sex. And now she is living with a friend. I also have a pic to share. Good luck scammer hunting, and to the scammed don't feel bad about yourself. You got scammed not because your stupid, but because you have a good heart.

Hi 4stringer,
I'm glad to hear that you and your friend were able to spot that this was a scammer. And you are right, also, that it is not stupidity when somebody does not so quickly recognise that they are being scammed.
Would you be prepared to also write about your experience on ScamWarners?
http://www.scamwarners.com/
You will see there is a forum there called Romance Scams.
It would be helpful if you could include a couple of emails from this person (especially the first one or two) - though please take care to remove all your own personal information first.
Thank you for sharing, and for your words of support for others. |

I don't want to guess the number - But, lad, isn't that the best fun to be had with MoneyGram reference numbers? |
