Think I'll give this one a go. He uses some big words

Be sure you ask your lad what one of those is, and is it OK to make contact with Licenced Parastatals and how can you tell the difference between a licenced and an unlicenced one.
Insist on an answer, after all this is a lot of money he is talking about |

From: http://www.neatorama.com/2009/08/02/big-words-make-you-seem-stupider/
Quote: |
The consequence of erudite vernacular utilized irrespective of necessity is that you wind up sounding like a moron:
Everyone knows how college students will try to make themselves sound smarter by reaching for the thesaurus and using big, ponderous words they barely understand. But now a new study shows that readers can see through this. Daniel Oppenheimer, a psychologist at Princeton, took a handful of writing samples and used a thesaurus to replace the simple words with needlessly flowery ones.
… Oppenheimer gave all the writing samples — the original, simple ones and the modified, flowery ones — to 71 students to evaluate. The result? As the grandiosity and complexity of the language increased, the judges’ estimation of the intelligence of the authors decreased. Oppenheimer wrote up his results in a paper with the gorgeously ironic title “Consequences of Erudite Vernacular Utilized Irrespective of Necessity: Problems with Using Long Words Needlessly.”

I noticed too that some scamers use big words... ever came across "consignment", "barrister" or "beneficiary"?
Those aren't actually the word you use daily, even if you do live in English speaking countries, are they? |

^^ Actually, a barrister is a type of lawyer. That word is very common in countries that speak a variant of English closer to British English.
And a beneficiary is just someone who receives benefits. |

I know what those are, but do you use them in your everyday conversations?
I started to learn English when I was 6-7, I use it both actively and passively, but I don't remember when was the last time I heard any of those (I'm sure I did, just don't remember when).
Sure I never had an opportunity or need to use law terminology, but still.
Of course I could be totally mistaken. You guys in UK, USA and other English speaking countries probably do encounter those phrases more often. |

I don't use or hear "barrister" because I live in America. But if you live in the UK or many of the Commonwealth countries, you would be likely to hear it in regular conversation. |

Yeah barrister is a common word, but the othere's are slightly more obscure. In australia barristers are those lawyers that wear the funny wigs for some reason.
And lads tend to just Ctrl+V their script, so I guess it's the script writer that has a lower intelligence, not necessarily the lad... Although I'm sure the lad is retarded to for that matter *whistle* |

The terms 'Lawyer' and 'Barrister' have different meanings in different countries. So be sure to check with your lad which one he means :
