Did you list an alternate email address for the account? I noticed when I was creating a new account that if I listed an alternate account I didn't get that message but if I didn't list one I did. To answer your question, you can try fastmail, they also strip IP's.

I had this happen to me when starting up a baiting account. I used my RL cell number.....nothing bad could come of that, right? I don't imagine Google is about to start handing out my RL cell number to my lads....

i didnt have to give any # even i didnt give alternate e-mail....

Try again. Give a non-google alternative address, even if it is a throw-away yahoo account.

Nothing has been proved to avoid the verification entirely, but those may help. If it asks for verification once, it may not the next time.

A month ago I created a new (non baiting) acc and as my location a put my real country (was too lazy to change it and it was preselected) and I had to give my # so I did...

Last week I was crating acc for baiting and it again asked me to give my #, but I refused and went all the way to google search engine page changed it to english (I'm not in USA or UK obviously), and proceeded to create a new gmail acc. I put all the details as I was from USA and it didn't ask me my #.
After that I repeated this process several times and it never ask me again.

I just put up a Gmail account for baiting no more than three hours ago, it never asked for an SMS message and I never provided another email.

*shrug*
