Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a nice BMW and have been looking at gumtree.com which seems to be brimming with bargain BMW's whose owners all have unexpected circumstances in Italy, and need to sell fast and have knocked down the price.... Laughing

For about a month unknown to me I've been responding to ads placed by various clowns. One of which I toyed around with and used the name Mr C Man and after 2 emails they confronted me and said the car had sold Sad

Others went on about the ebay-gumtree special link of trust and sent some faked ebay second offers etc.

At the weekend I found another scammer - he (aka Adrian) has emailed me pictures of a car I'm actually bidding for on ebay! - now upto £6k, but I'd love to pay Adrian just £2k for it. Adrian knows me as Dr R Hammond, and his first & second emails are below....

Apologize for the delayed response, I'm in Italy right now and I have been very busy.Any way,thank you for your interest
in buying my car.The car is located in Italy right now but has UK papers and still registered in UK.
I am going through a difficult divorce, and I had to move out of UK.So all that I want to do now is to sell the car at this price, as you can see the price is a bit cheaper because I need to sell it fast.
Technical inspection and emissions testing is passed and stamped as well. It has title of ownership, cleared of
any obligations or fees and comes with all the documents you need to register it.
I've wanted to register it here and keep it for me,
unfortunately import taxes and Italy regulations made me change my mind.
I take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the car, to be sure that I'm not wasting
my time with endless discussions since it is already a very difficult period for me.So if you are interested please email me back.
You will not pay anything for delivery and the car will arrive to your place in 7-8 days.

Lads don't keep track of who they've emailed, so "replying" from any baiting account very rarely fails.

ok, I'll see what he comes back with.

I have posted 'warning' ads on Gumtree before but they usually get removed and the best effort Gumtree have come up with is a warning in small red font at the top of the screen.

Shame really as now they are owned by ebay, they could implement a whole raft of anti-fraud measures, such as membership, verification and even a buyer guarantee. Unless of course ebays long term plan is for users to lose faith in Gumtree and switch to ebay... Mad

You of course, thought they meant 'escort service', since they accompany the car over to you for inspection. Then you'll need to make sure the escort is the right age, size, measurements, and you'll need pictures of course, etc.etc. Smile

Seriously though as I mentioned, I think you need to post this in the fake banks and sites forum here for someone to kill, (to prevent others from being victimized) Or, you can do it yourself! Very Happy

You can still continue the bait through email not 'knowing' it's down. You're having computer problems and can't seem to access the website anymore, but not to worry, you want to continue on with the deal anyway, or.....etc.
Of course, also post a warning on Gumtree.

Be wary of that one too, your lad may have hijacked an ebay account to repeat the process. If suspicious, report it to ebay as well, they will pull the listing while they investigate.

I once 'bought' a BMW M3 'off the books' from ebay for way under the real value, of course I started to get convincing emails from 'eBay Europe'
about shipping and escrow, that came from the same Ip adress as the seller. A report to eBay got the hijacked account shut down.

I guess its possibe but I would never pay large sums of money without meeting the buyer and from their house after they handed over reg docs (in the case of a car).
The gumtree lads seem to save pictures off ebay auctions, resize them badly to remove the little logo ebay puts on pics then posts them up. BMW's are particularly scam popular at the moment.

There are several ways you could take it from here - and you might get a bank account out of him, as well. Smile

Here are a couple of ideas.

There are any number of excuses to give him as to why you don't wish to deal with MG. Checking MG locations, the nearest agent is 30 mins. from you, and your bank is 30 mins. in the opposite direction. You're an extremely busy man and your time is at a premium. Obviously, the most expedient way for both parties, would be for you to simply wire it from your bank to his. Will he kindly provide his account number for the transfer?

Or, you can send him the MG form (blank attachment) or a real fake form (in Help,Hints). Remember, the problem is always on their end, and it's always their fault. Why is he the one complaining... you're doing what he asked, it's not your problem he can't open or see it. You even sent it to yourself, and it's as clear as day.

Lots of scenarios...the main thing is to string him along and waste as much of his time as possible, and have a barrel of laughs along the way. Very Happy

Ok we're making some progress with my 3 lads.

They all reckon bank transfers are just too slow!!! (too slow to keep up with the 3 litre BMW they're going to send me?) 1 wants MG other two want WU - I have a feeling they're all going to get MG... Laughing

One of the lads has just delivered his shipping companies 'contract' nicely done in mspaint Shocked

and highly un-professional looking. He would like it faxed back or scanned and emailed.

I think I'll oblige and fax it back to him, but oh no look, the fax has jammed and half of it has turned into continous lines down the page..... Rolling Eyes
