Is Scambaiting dying? Are the scammers becoming fewer and fewer? will scambaiting tatctics employed at present become obsolete soon? |

Let's take the good ol' .dll file into .jpg trick, the scammers will sooner or later become aware of that, and will resort to other tactics. |

Let's say if one keeps on reusing fake information on different scammers, eventually the scammers will catch on and it will be difficult to get at them... |

^^^ that would only happen if all of the scammers compare notes. There are lots and lots of scammers and they are all over the world. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of them. Some are too smart for some of our baiting techniques but as Nurse Nasty said, we keep developing new ones.
Welcome here. |

There isn't a specific "right step". As long as you waste his time and don't educate him at all, you're doing it right. If you get a reply from him it will probably be a scripted response. Just write back again, pretending to be a real victim. Don't spend a lot of time writing a long and creative email, just ask him a couple of questions and act as if you're interested/compliant. |

Whilst you wait for a Mentor, take a look at Eater University at the bottom of the index page.
Because the .dll is renamed .jpg, the scammers don't really know what hit them. They just want the money. The have a whole internet full of potential victims, they aren't going away any time soon.
We have to be careful that we don't think that we have beaten the enemy, they are like weeds...

And they never give each other a heads up. I accidentally sent an email (like a newsletter about my baiting habits) I normally send to my friends (Bcc'd fortunately) to a scammer I used to bait. And did my current lad get a heads up from previous scammer??? No effing way. |

“will scambaiting tatctics employed at present become obsolete soon?”
Depends on what is you mean by “tactics”, in a sense your answer is yes and fairly quickly.
But the catch is we move on to other tactics, always try to put your own spin on anything.
I was on a forum awhile back and I believe it’s since died, or I think it has. But the place wanted extreme control over everything. They had approved scripts, that you were allowed vary a little, but not much more.
This forum and its baits or any bait on the net should be considered resources to give you simple ideas to change and expand on.
Yes, you can make a mugu waste their time, but aim higher, always try increase their mental anguish. |

..which they can't because of competition and dolla choppin.
Another advantage for the baiters, who can compare notes and ask/give advice all the time.
(And do what ParaNoid said: Read EaterU.) |

And anyway.. there's no way they can see through straightbaiting before they invested at least some time in it. As long as you 'look' enough like a real victim, they'll keep responding and thus waisting time. |

I certainly hope scambaiting is a dying sport -- all we are trying to do on this site is to put ourselves out of business by eliminating online scammers.
It may happen, but with at least 250,000 scammers in Lagos alone, and probably as many again from the rest of the world, we can't afford to disband just yet.
Scamming and scambaiting are like an arms race; they find some new low way to cheat people, we block it or make it difficult.
There are no winners here; the biggest losers are the ordinary poor people of Nigeria who have no access to the Internet, and probably not even electricity or running water.
Because of the 419 scamming activities carried out by Nigeria's middle class (yes, it's true - where do you think that English education came from?), no company with an ounce of sense would invest in Nigeria (except the greedhead oil dudes), and hence the vast majority of Nigerians live in dreadful squalor and poverty.
Foreign Direct Investment has long been recognised as the best way to improve the lives of poor citizens; the 419 scammers deny that chance to their own people. |

Exactly. They'll never know unless we tell them, which we don't). When I get what I want from one (bank acc't. website, etc.), I usually cease doing business with them all of a sudden. They never know why, and not understanding, sometimes they continue sending emails 3 mos. later - just in case! My straight characters are always on the verge of some plausible real life crisis to begin with though, so they just never know what happened. (but I so l-o-v-e the hilarious, convoluted, and disturbed characters of our safari baiters here)

And/or corrupt government officials (which of course is rife in many world governments)
It does seem like 419 in the penal code is merely lip service then?
I don't want to cross the line on 419 Eater {politics} policy here, so I'll understand if the last sentence is snipped. |

Welcome zeldarocks.
To answer your question, I suggest you do your own research. Some scammers probably do start to recognize "jokers" after a while, but there's always a new twist or angle to keep things fresh and lively. Some scammers simply never learn.
While you're waiting for a mentor, give this thread a read. It was put together by a total nut-job, but there is some good advice in there.
Be sure to report back with your findings. |

The other thing to remember is that scammers are actually in competition with one another, so whilst you will get some small groups of friends (or Ogas with trainees), by and large they will not co-operate unless there's cash in it for them personally. This gives us an advantage (as our numbers are way lower) that we *do* co-operate, share information and whatnot. The more we play the dolla chop modality, the more mutual mistrust we engender in ladland, the less they share with one another, and the more we divide them. Divide and conquer? Well, we can try at least. |
