I posted on a website (kijiji.ca ) to sell my laptop. Kijiji is like ebay but it's free and for local only. You post an ad and then buy/sell face-to-face. I got two e-mails so far from guys with some long story about a fiance/husband who is in Nigeria and they want to buy my laptop and will pay for shipping and the cost of the laptop via paypal. They said to just send them a paypal money request and they will pay then ship it off to Nigeria. Now whenever someone even reads the word 'Nigeria' you must think it is automatically a scam. I think it is a scam but I am wondering how could they scam me. They say they will pay via paypal and pay me before I send the laptop. How does this scam work exactly?

They have a phished paypal site, which they will send you the link to, it will show the amount, you send off the laptop, there is no money, you lose.

There is also the usual send the excess via western onion to my daughter/shipper/barrister request

So you meet face to face for the exchange? Interesting. I suspect a "straw buyer" using a stolen credit card (something worthy of alan's attention). I knew once of a scam involving the purchase of a large amount of new CISCO router units to Ghana, all purchased with a stolen CC. The company was grateful to have the units returned.

Please tray and get the CC number turned into Alan. I think you may find it is compromised in some way. It may even be a victim using their own to purchase for a lad. Remember how they always try to get us to send laptops (sometimes anyway). Any fellow baiter agree?

I've also baited a lad who has sent spoofed emails that looked like paypal receipt, hoping that I'd send an item when I got notice they had "paid".

Thanks . Now I understand how the scam works. I'm glad I didn't fall for that. I knew it had to be a scam with all the spelling and grammer mistakes.
