I kinda think so. He may the the rare lad willing to invest a real one euro note (or whatever the minimum note is) in his victim, but I wouldn't touch it for anything. If it's a real note, you're cash baiting; if it's fake you're in possession of counterfeit currency.

There's other ways to get him. Send his phone number to an angry lad (or 300), implicate him in a dolla chop, get him off script and onto a love bait, or just insult the crap out of him. Just because he's peddling fake notes there's no reason for him to enjoy immunity Twisted Evil

btw - minimum note is 5,- he would'nt send it.

mabe he is educated in some way, or has a ghostwriter for opening script. but is still fighting with stringent logic.

The rules refers to cash baiting as "convincing a scammer to send you money under false pretences", which doesn't cover a lad offering a Euro note in his first email.
Perhaps a mod could rule on this? It seems a shame if we can't bait this one.
We can't use a real address or a drop box of course.

I'd ask him for a sample, send it to a dropbox, and then destroy/deface upon arrival. However, I think the chance of the Secret Service wanting to know what you're up to is pretty good. It's not an area I would want to stray into, especially if I was new to baiting.

I'd imagine that knowingly handling fake money is an offense pan Europe ... the US get really anal about it ...

But baiting someone who will launch into asking you for fees of some kind pretty damn quickly shouldn't need a mod's "go ahead" .... just be mindful of the position you might put yourself in if you even touch the fake money.

Good fakes fool the bank experts, what chance do you have of proving somethng is or isn't a good fake?

^ this is a good point. I have an idea that in Britain at least and probably just as much in the states, inciting someone to commit a crime (ie forgery) is nearly as bad as actually doing it.

Thinking on it though, this begs the question of why more of us haven't been prosecuted for all the trunkboxes and dormant accounts we've been trying to "claim" for years.

I'm suspicious that the lad may not actually be forging euros, and may be offering a fake service, rather like the credit card cloning lads we've had of late.

On the other hand, he might be. hard to say for certain. They're bound to be rubbish if he is.

Whatever his angle, he's trying to part you or someone else from their hard earned cash so baiting him wastes his time and diverts his attention from other potential victims. Sometimes you have to be aware of what you might be letting yourself in for, but the standard baiter/scammer defences should give you more than enough protection.

He may not even be serious about sending you the 'sample'. You could just bait him until it gets to that point.

He certainly deserves to be baited, but I would never give him any physical address, even a phoney one. This one could get a whole lotta LEO leaping in very quickly, as a number of different real crimes could come back to be pinned on the baiter.
