Came across the site researching. I have a g1 cell so all my email is sent to that as soon as it hits my inbox and I got an email about a week ago that said just simply claims... as the subject and listed a name as the sender so I opened it. The email was short and simply said that a $450000 atm card was being accredited to me. What threw me off is that its an email from a local isp, I already knew something was up but decided to go ahead and mess with this person a bit and replied "Yeah ok, wow what will I do with all that money." Guess sarcasm doesn't translate in emails, a few days later I got an email from the same name with a different host site. The host site is live.com which is what looks like a different version of hotmail if you go to the website. Now this email is much more detailed and legit....looking. By no means is it actually legit. Basically I send them $135 for fedex fees and they send my atm card. So in an attempt to mess with them I attempted a $22000 order from best buy, couple plasma tvs, wii, ps3, xbox 360, a $3000 surround sound system, wall mounts for the tvs, few grand in car audio, some other stuff but it didn't go through with the card number provided. Didn't expect it to but I tried anyway just to rack up a nice bill in case they were dumb enough to give me a working credit card number. And hey, if it went through they can't sue I have email showing that card number is supposedly mine anyway. So now I decided I'm going to go ahead and mess with them, so I replied to their email to charge the fedex fees to this card, and I'm going to call this person with the phone number provided in the email in a few days and act like they got me. This should be fun. No, I haven't sent them a penny.

Hi Unoriginal, welcome to the Eater.

As you will know, the ATM card won't probably be a real one. Still, in my opinion you shouldn't have messed with it anyway, trying to buy stuff online. Just in case it IS a stolen card you could have caused problems to innocent third parties (the real holder of the card or the internet shop you purchased from) .. and they're leading to your Real life email address if I understand correctly.

It is better to create a fake identity when you decide to mess around with scammers. Create a fake email account, and take it from there. Never use RL details.

Welcome, read the forum stickies, apply for a mentor to get you on your way baiting .. and have fun! Laughing

Already ahead of ya, i was a victim of identity theft myself a few years back and lost $11000+ completely unprovoked and without my knowledge because of a stolen debit machine. Im a hard person to track down, multiple home addresses, 3 fake names for situations like this, and too many email addresses to count. even if it was someone elses card they couldve gotten the money back with a fraud report and i have these emails so the only one getting hurt in the end would be this person. so getting someone would be very satisfying.

^^ Sorry to see you've already been a victim of these crooks. Hope at the end it turned out ok for you.

Good to see you're using fake identities and email addies. But you don't really think the scammer's ID and email are real, do you? There's little chance you could track them down I'm afraid .. Wasting their time, efforts and money is the best we can do most of the time .. but it's fun anyhow

: edited to clearify and add

This person is either incredibly smart, or just experienced in doing this, I already have a reply back and they're playing hardball. I'm obviously not going to directly copy the emails and things so that its not as easy for them to do a google search and come across the thread but basically this is what they're saying.

They can't debit the card because of Nigerian law, now whether this is actual law or not, don't know, don't care, won't take the time to look it up until necessary. They list an insurance company and assure me this is all covered under a policy. Ok that's fine and dandy, this just adds to my leverage to tag them along longer and continue to string them along and hopefully come across some information that could give me a chance to get them busted.

The name I now have noticed has changed spelling with each email. So now I'm acting as if I'm getting suckered in but still have gaurd up. I've asked for the policy and all paperwork associated in a pdf format. I also now have an address for a Western Union payment to be delivered to in Ikeja Nigeria. There's also 2 decrees mentioned between the last 2 emails. This is getting fun.
