Hi

Am very new here but love the site already. I used to be a fraud investigator but left to move on in my career. Reading the baiting reminded me of the buzz you get when you sit opposite a fraudster in their own house, after drinking their coffee and eating their biscuits, and you tell them they are liars! Didn't realise i missed it as much till now!

Anyhow, I am looking forward to learning the pretty impressive tactics used by people on this site - big respect to shiver! I know i will have fun, my style as an investigator was to wind em up as long as possible while being their best friend until the moment you pull the rug out from under their legs!

Where I think I may need some assistance on is the technology side of things. I am not the greatest on IT and web stuff so I am looking for an idiots guide of things to be wary of - i.e what phishing is etc?

I am hoping I can use this baiting for some great fun.

As you might have seen there's lots of stuff to read, stickies, Eater university and lots more.

Apply for a mentor if you feel the need, or simply ask away in the forums, there's plenty of helpful people around to answer questions. Bait safe, and have fun.

Probably the biggest difference between your past life and baiting is that we dont pull the rug out from under them, telling them were are baiters and they have been caught in our trap (burning them) only serves to teach them, we much prefer de-educating them Wink

As suggested, there are loads of great stickies to read, dont be too concerned about a lack of IT experience, you dont need a whole lot of IT knowledge to get started, ability to send emails though is essential Wink

Do you mean end a scam, or end a scambait?
You can't stop a lad scamming. The idea of baiting is to keep the bait going as long as possible. The longer it lasts, the more scammer's time is wasted.

If the question is: "How do you end a bait if you don't burn them?", which is what I think you might be asking, here are some of the more common ways...

-get bored and stop replying to them, they will keep trying and you just ignore them (though as stated above, the longer you keep them hooked, the less time they have to scam others) until they go away.
-They are not compliant so you deliberately drop them and make it clear that you won't proceed because they won't fill out that legally required form, insist on working with that idiot of an attorney, whatever...
-They suspect you are a "joker" (baiter) and they drop you, sometimes they start the closure by sending you a round of insults and/or threats, which you can return in kind if you choose, but you still don't tell them you were baiting them...
-Your character dies (some baits are around here could rival any soap opera).
-They fade away to pursue more promising victims and then sometimes resurface weeks to months later because all of their promising victims are gone or have stopped paying, so they are back to the 2nd round...

The nice thing is, even though there is satisfaction in burning them, by never admitting to be a baiter, you ultimately leave them with more doubt and confusion--and they waste even more time wondering whether you were real, and if you were, what they did to lose you... And the next time around they just might fill out that form!

The best part, for me, is having a scammer think that s/he somehow just missed the big score. You can always rebait your choice pet with another email addy.

Apply for a mentor. Mine was wonderful. She helped me to lern a lot of useful baiting tools, and was encouraging. She had a glossy pelt, one eye, and broken teeth. I miss her....

Hi embrad, and welcome to Eater

the open but painfull end of a bait - they just dont`t know what was going on. one method could be: so close to have the hand on that money, and than happend a dollar-chop (you will find plenty of examples of, here. there is also a button for: search) keeps the carrot dangling for them.

and as the field of the scams we are confronted with is wide, so is the 'idiots guide to scambaiting and the use of IT` spread all over this forum, but you could start with a visit at the Eater-University, or help, hints and tips.
