check writing scam?

I've got a company that has asked me to buy check paper in order to write checks for them. How does this scam work?

You print the checks, then you either post them to other victims or you cash them yourself.

The checks are bad and the police follow the checks back until they get to you. Then the trail gets cold and goes overseas. Guess who they throw the book at.

As Thud says, they are basically using you to do their dirty work.

When the cheques are received by the person you are sending them to, that person will be asked to bank them and send some of the money by Western Union. By the time the bank picks up on the fact the cheque is bad, the balance will already have been sent.

The cheques are normally used in a couple of ways -
* part of a representative scam, where the person receiving them is asked to bank them and keep 10% for themselves.
* for the purchase of something that needs shipping, with some of the money needing to be sent to the (fake) shipping company for their costs.
