I quit my job today... Have been there for some interesting 8 months. I'll miss some of my former workmates, several of them are real friends.
But sincerely, the ex-boss is a BIGTIME a**h**e. He came to me today, (he rarely speaks to me), and said "You either resign, or I'll either fire you on accounts of insubbordination, drinking alcohol at work, etc. There's no drinking in my company! Even now you are boozed!" 
I mean, he was hangovered after some bigtime party held yesterday with his family and his friends. So cheeky...
I admit I had 2 glasses of wine yesterday, before that party, but today I was crisp&sharp.  The hypocrisy.... On that reason, he could fire all the staff, because everybody had some wine or beer or spirits yesterday or on some other ocassions.
He could have been honest and say "I don't need you anymore, so pack your stuff and bugger off".
I just said "Fine, you'll have my resignation on your desk in 5min".
The bastard has not payed me since january, at least now I got the money he owed me.
Twice he left me peniless on holydays: first time for X-mas and New Year, second on Easter.
So, good bye and good riddance. |

Should have let him fire you. Much easier to sue for wrongful termination. Now that you've quit, you won't have that option. Too bad you didn't keep copius notes over the last 8 months. Would have been a nice case to pursue.

I was just sick and tired of his endless excuses to not pay me (or some other employees). Whenever he was asked about money, he said:
"Money? What do you want money for? To spend them?"
or
"I am broke, I barely have a 20 in my pocket" - the excuse he served me on 31th December '08. Modified for some other employees with 40 instead of 20.
Others, he just ignored when they asked for their pay.
I just don't want to see him anymore. |

It sounds like you will be better off.
Second guessing it, in the USA, if you are laid off you can collect unemployment (FWIW). Often being in a "better place" is actually... better.  |

Well, at least when he payed, he payed every penny he owed me.
BUT! NO X-mas bonus... NO Easter bonus... no regular payment... And I had to constantly beg for MY OWN MONEY!
All these while he cruised along in his expensive Mercedes, concluding businesses with five zeroes, and complaining he has no money!

I have no worries for the moment. I will find a job sooner or later.
The liquidation payment and dinner coupons should last me for 2-3 months.
But I'll start looking for a job monday.

in my country you would be able to sue on the grounds of 'constructive dismissal'.
but i don't know where you live or what laws are applicable.
