FastMail closed my account

My FastMail account got disabled for sending too many emails. I was trying to send out a mass email for the WIMP modality; I ended up just using Gmail with the "Send email as" function.

They still closed the account. Sad

Just as I was about to get a lad on a safari. I wrote them and asked them if it could be reopened, mentioned I'm a baiter from Eater, and even gave them my ID here so they could verify. I also told them they could look at the inbox for extra proof. (There's obviously no national security documents in there, just a bunch of lad bullshit. Razz

) Got a response back from a support rep. stating that the emails looked like a scam themselves. That was 2 days ago. I wrote back explaining the WIMP modality, providing a link to the thread (although it's in the closed section of the forum) if they wanted to verify. Nothing yet.

There is other input about this here, and many baiters seem to like FastMail, so I'm still hopeful that they'll reopen the account. (I would have posted in this thread, but it hasn't been updated since September '08.)

Fastmail is run by a bunch of pricks. I've had accounts closed for a lot less than mass-mailing from there.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree there.

I'll be using Gmail I guess. I like Gmail but their damn CAPTCHAs are the worst ever. And getting a Gmail reinstated isn't the easiest either from what I've heard, but I've also never gotten a baiting Gmail account killed.

I've never had an issue with fastmail. I generally use Gmail, but occasionally I like to have an address with a different domain name. Even if you tell them you're a baiter I don't think that will suffice if you've exceeded your quota for sent messages.

I didn't exceed the quota. I *tried* to mass mail but got the message from the system saying I couldn't. So technically, I didn't.

I've heard Fastmail is baiter friendly. They'll probably sort it out for you.

I thought they could end up sharing a cold cell with a burly guy named Bubba for doing this. Every IP I've ever worked with has had zero tolerance for looking into an account holder's email contents, citing all sorts of penal codes. Then again I'm not sure if you're in the US or not, may not apply if you're elsewhere

^^I'm not sure anyone is sitting around reading emails. They probably have have filters that catch keywords. In my experience, most providers have something similar, if only to catch spam. Gmail goes a bit further and serves up ads that relate to your email content.

In my original email, I gave them permission to read the emails in the account. I've got no problem with that - that's not my complaint at all. (As I said, there's no national security documents in there.)

I've had my previous accounts closed by them but as Luckey said they are baiter friendly. After I emailed them informing them what I was doing they opened the account back up for me.

Give the admin some time to deal with your issue.

Fasmail has grown since the good old days when they could deal with such things in hours. They are run by a small team of owner operators, who by and large are very good at reopening accounts and give us preferential treatment unless they have changed their policy recently. Wink

The reason it was closed was because they hadn't seen the WIMP modality, and they wanted to be sure I myself wasn't a lad. Which I totally understand - perhaps their proactiveness in preventing scams is why I've never seen a FastMail account used for a scam. They're aware of the modality now and so future baiters should hopefully have an easier time dealing with this.

Also, just make sure you don't mass mail - set up a Gmail to use for mass mailing, then just use their "Send mail as" feature.

which is nonsense - i pay good cash for the highest level so (if I wanted) I could send 2000 emails per hour!

but I don't - I did send 900 in one session on Monday, but that's it. I've posted a support ticket thing, so hopefully I get it re-opened soon!

you know you can send as different domains from within gmail and have gmail fetch the email from those other accounts, right? Smile

gmail will also label fetched mail to help you differentiate between your characters
