it appears over the past few weeks some little MotherF'r has taken it upon himself to burglarize our house (twice).

He/she/they have taken things that aren't noticable immediately. The first time was 3 weeks ago, he/she/they took a PS2. We didn't notice it went missing until our youngest went to play it and it wasn't there.

yesterday we noticed they had made their biggest haul to date. My son went to play the Xbox and it was gone. We did a quick sweep of the house and realized they had also taken a laptop computer, a digital camera and my sons IPOD that he received for christmas.

There was no sign of forced entry and we haven't noticed anything else missing. I have determined it is someone familiar with our home because they failed to remove the DVD player or the stereo from the family room, I am doing remodeling and they didn't touch any of my tools (air nailer, portable compressor, compound mitre saw). They didn't even rummage through the drawers where they would have found jewelry.

It is obvious they weren't professionals or they would have wiped us out. hell my workshop contains thousands of $$'s of tools and is easily accessible with a good door kick. Thankfully, they didn't make an attempt to enter my gun safes.

These little F*ckers really piss me off, I hate thieves and would be happy to end their careers, maybe not with death, but stopping them from passing on their genetic deficiencies would suffice!!!!!!!

Going to Gander mountain to pick up a couple digital trail cameras, I hope I get their picture. Better yet I would love to catch these bastards in my house.

*911* "someone is in my house, I think they are going to hurt me. *unholsters handgun* put the knife down". I'm thinking 2 full clips from my 9mm might be enough to make him/her/they rethink their career choice?

They've done this twice, they'll be back.

it is unfortunate for me that the PD can't do much. they would need serial #'s of everything that was taken and the only thing that we had the serial # for was the IPOD, maybe we'll get lucky?

Not to cast apersions, but is it possible one of your kids has taken those things over to a friend's house to play with and now might be a little scared to own up?

mg, 9mm might go through the perp and the wall possibly damaging other items or family. I suggest .45, better stopping power and frangilble ammo such as Glazer rarely leaves the target.

On the less than lethal side, it seems your perp knows what they want and where to find it if you do not notice the items are missing right away. Being that the items are high value electronics I would think the perp is a male. Were there any repair services in your home recently that may have had access to the areas the items were kept? A "random" burglary by a person who is unknown to your would have been extremely messy as they would have "tossed" everything to find what they were going to take and more than likely your tools would've been gone as you said. I honestly would suspect a friend of your son's or, as I am not familiar with your son's habits, age, friends, etc., I carefully advise observing your son for indicators of drug/alcohol abuse or gang affiliation. I'm just throwing out some possibilities as I am sure your local LEOs are, as always, very busy.

On a serious note, having been a victim of a break-in many years ago, I know that it's a terrible feeling. Not as much because of the items lost, but the feeling that some strange person was in my house, going through my things. I hope you find the bastages.

I can honestly say I know what you are going through and it thoroughly sucks. I am sure that its a kid. My son had his bike stolen out of our driveway. He was extremely upset even though I told him I would buy him a replacement and installed a hard point on the garden wall to lock it to if he did not want to use the garage. Later I found the kid in another town about 8 miles away on the stolen bike. He denied all, even told us he did not know what happened to the front brakes, he found it that way. Hummm.... I give him a $5 reward and asked him for his address so I could send him some more. My son asked on the way home why I did that. I told him that I was not being chicken, but I had our family to think about. If he stuck to his story about finding the bike on the street, he would be released in about an hour and we would not know where he lived. My way, he gets to walk 8 miles, we know now where he lives, and his crappy life will not be turned around.

Guns are usually not the solution. I've had thieves in my sights with a firearm at condition 1 several times and have thought long and hard about how valuable a life is.

Here's an interesting article about a thief that brought her 4 Y.O. to the crime at least twice and the homeowner was waiting with a gun. Could you imagine being the 4 Y. O., tired of waiting in a 1993 Toyota and going into the house looking for mamma?

MG,

Seem like it was/is someone well acquainted with your house who knew exactly what items they wanted to take. They were also comfortable enough to go in because they must know your schedules. No forced entry, was the door unlocked?

It also sounds to me like a younger person/s by the items taken...I'd say an older or more mature person would have gone after the much more expensive things that were there as well. Also, the first time might have been just a trial run to see how it would go.

Hate to say it, but mainly because of the items it sounds like someone your son knows - not a friend, rather someone who's just been over in a group for a party or something.

It's absolutely infuriating. We had some expensive items stolen (including a gun that was well hidden) when some 'acquaintances' of my college age children were here for a party. (no insurance help, they were invited). I couldn't stop my evil thoughts about the thief and the gun. Like, oops it went off by accident. Boom, your dead. Nah..... I didn't say that Wink

I really hope you catch them on camera and use some of your baiting skills to nail em. Very Happy

^^ i do believe it is an aquaintance of our oldest. the camera is set and if/when they try again, i'll have them. this is fun, almost like baiting, but i might actually get to beat the crap out of someone. *kidding, I am a nonviolent person. unless provoked* Wink

Todays rant, the laziness/ignorance of todays youth in the US (or at the least, the one i dealt with last night).

last night I ran into town to pick up a painting pan for the missus, could have went to menards but opted for walmart only because i needed a pack of cigs.

the cashier, a maybe 19ish young lady, rang my items through and the total was $6.96. I handed her a tenner and she ran it through, change due $3.96. I hate change so I handed the young lady a $.05.

She looked at me with disgust and said "why did you do that, I'm not good at math".

I looked at her with surprise and exclaimed "are you kidding me"?

Her reply, "Why would I kid about that? can you tell me how much change you get back".

I was floored, hell she had 10 fingers, use them! I calmly explained to the young lady that dealing with these troubles is a good skill. I waited patienly for her to count to 5 Rolling Eyes

after what seemed minutes, i told her "you owe me $4.01. if i had told you $100, would you have believed me"?

I can't help but be troubled that this is our future who may someday lead this country. Shocked

Man rings cops to tell them that his shed was being burgled. Cops don't want to know and tell him they have no available officers to deal with it and to sort it himself. Man puts phone down and rings back five minutes later and tells them that they don't have to bother anymore as he has shot the culprit. [He hadn't-the thief escaped].

Five minutes later three cop cars and a police helicopter descend on the scene. Cop says "I thought you said you'd shot him." Man replies "And I thought you said you didn't have any men available."

@ Tommo - I sincerely hope that story is true. That sounds like just the kind of thing that is needed, especially after all our money is plundered on a police service that isn't interesting in catching a criminal.

I would go with .357 or .44 mag unless you're reasonably certain of multiple head shots.

At the very least, I would contact your local PD.

While the return of your goods would be probably be remote, if it is reported, the PD may be able to match up other thefts in the area that match your situation.

It might be a random theft, but if it is one of your friends pals, he might be at it at other friends homes as well.

Secondly, it might put the theif on notice that his activities have been discovered. Make sure you let your kids know that the police have dusted for fingerprints, and are looking for matches. Also let them know that they are now of "file" and that if it happens again, they will know who to start looking for.

Kids love to talk, and if they see the police going through your rooms, the word will spread. Nothing may come of it, but at least your "theif" will be put on notice.

You might even contact your local GAMESTOP retail location and inquire about recent PS2/XBOX trades. If you have the serial # from the box/receipt you can ask if they have been turned in for cash. You might get lucky.

Also, have your son call local pawnshops and ask the same.

I'm tempted to say something about improving the gene pool but in reality I have no idea what I would do. This is a very interesting insight. I just completed the required class for my concealed carry license and the instructor repeatedly made the point that everything changes when you pull out a gun, and it never changes for the better.

With all that said, shooting a neighbor's kid is probably not the best idea. Showing the neighbor the picture of his kid along with a picture of your 9mm is a much better approach. Good luck.

Only if you want to go to prison. The OP doesn't have "proof" it's the neighbor kid. What is showing your neighbor a picture of his child, and a picture of your gun going to do?

At best, your going to get a visit from the police, and possibly DCFS for not having a safe home.

At worst, your neighbor will show you a picture of your kid, and a picture of his fully auto .50 cal. And then the race is on.

Many commiserations on your burglary though, MG. I was round at a friends last night, he recently had the centre panel of his UPVC back door kicked in by theiving toerags, it popped out with no damage. It is now reinforced by heavy timbers.

His insurance wont pay out, because his burglar alarm didnt work. He told them this when he took the insurance out, but their line is if you've got it, it must work. I guess he got a cheaper premium because of it, so that figures.

@Krona - 380 ammo is not as common as it used to be, 9mm and .40 is all the rage lately

Roycropper is completely right about the firearms thing ("gun" is a negative word), since there are so many differing governmental policies represented on this board it should be a taboo subject and left to the citizens of a particular country to decide, not to have another country recommend their values are superior...i think automobile control should be discussed as lately they are used far more extensively to cause mayhem and death. BRING BACK HORSE AND CARRIAGE!!

@M_G, the ability to make change is a lost art. My wife used to work at a grocery store before electronic registers, so whe is real good with making change. She has done the exact thing at the cinema and the cashier got flustered and gave her her money back... Shocked

My wife then gave her a lesson on how to make change and payed for the tickets. The poor girl was totally bewildered about how to do it. Laughing

Local PD isn't capable of doing much, the amount of time passing, no sign of forced entry, no serial #'s (except for the IPOD).

called local pawn shops, nothing.

Insurance company won't do much, the first question they ask "was the house secure". tough to say yes with no sign of forced entry. the second question was "do you have receipts".

A good lesson to everyone, document the serial #'s and put them in a safe place.

good thing they didn't empty my beer fridge, i'd really be upset. Laughing

The real problem is that given a carriage and a selection of horses, the next generation won't have a clue which end the horses go, or how many.
