Random musing...

I was over at Romancescam.com and noticed that every third scammer has "Kelvin" as a first or last name. I can honestly say that I have NEVER met anyone named "Kelvin" and I just started to wonder how all these Nigerian scammers decided this was the quintessential American name.

I have a lad named Kelvin.
Yes he makes as much sense as his name too.
I told him I loved his name and it was a good strong name.
AND of course he does it backwards like most of them do too.
He told me he was either 43 or 34 he gets confused but he used a pic of an older man with white hair.
He is definitely a Kelvin. Laughing

We have several (!) Chinese grad students here named Kelvin. Maybe people pick it up in chemistry class?

I have met several people named Kelvin, most from Canada, plus two midwestern Mennonites.
Just like many other names there is a massive amount of regional variation in its popularity. There's a lot of interesting information about names here:

Pinkdragon, following firehouse5's link, we find that Calvin is originally old French, and has something to do with baldness. Kelvin is from the Gaelic, and means "narrow water". So no, they're not related...

I vaguely remember a guy my sister dated named 'Kelvin', who was kind of a bland, prep school product supposedly from 'money'. So bland, all I can remember is my sister spoke his name so wierdly, and to his face, I thought it was a sarcastic nickname.
