I'm just curious about this, if anyone has thoughts... I keep getting these Emails obviousy of some kind of scam (they are all written very similarly) asking me for a massage because I posted in the therapeutic section of craigslist. (Another sign this is some kind of scam -- I don't offer massage, or even visit clients in person.)

The thing that I think is weird is they always say they need a massage for "regain of weight" or "weight gain." Is there some myth that massage makes you fat, or something?

FUN FACT: These massage Emails also usually end with the sentence "I prefer women hands or men."

It would be helpful if you could post a couple of those emails with the full headers.
Maybe then we could answer and see exactly what the sender is up to.

Chances are that you may have just hooked a pervert.

P.S. PM on the way enquiring about "extras".

If it is AFF, my guess is that it will turn out to be a fake check scam. They will want to prepay, then will cancel and want a refund before the check is found to be fake. But it is always good to post the emails (with full headers) as they might give us more of a clue and warn future potential victims at the same time.

I have to say this is the first I've heard of this particular script - but the fact that there are some repetitive, laddish phrases makes me believe it is a scam script.

Please do post the emails with the full headers - you've piqued my curiosity!

I posted one of them a few weeks ago in one of the other subforums. I suppose I could put up a few more though, since I've gotten several.

Yeah, it is a check scam. They set up an appointment, send a check (that is over the price of the session). They tell you to deposit it for future sessions, then you get a "massage" saying their plans have changed, keep some of the money (for your trouble) and return the rest to them.

Of course, the check is forged and you get stuck with all of the bank and legal repercussions that come with a forged check.

Several of the professional organizations I belong to have sent out warnings. (No I don't do massage... Harry.) Hopefully the massage therapy associations are warning their membership too.

If you do bait them do it in a safe manner. I tried to bait one, but I think I "knew" too much to sound like a credibile victim. Sad

Been too busy lately with legitimate business with my non-massage-based website (Honestly, you'd think if they took time enough to go to my site and get my Email address, they'd have at least noticed what I actually do. I'm a fortune teller, not a masseuse.)

I did come up with the idea of baiting one of them by sending them to a "friend" who would be a masseuse, but frankly I haven't any entertaining scambait ideas right now anyway.

EDIT: I suppose the "friend" could be an expert who only does some kind of crazy 'psychic massage' or something that would require the scammer to send several dozen embarrassing photos. Don't really know how much scammer-ass I'm up for seeing though.
