Robert Burns, also called Rabbie Burns and Scotland's favourite son, was born on Jan. 25, 1759, and grew up farming. But writing was his real calling. He wrote such poems and songs as Auld Lang Syne,often sung on New Year's Eve,A Red, Red RoseandScots Wha Hae,which once served as an unofficial Scottish national anthem.

This weekend, Fryer and many other local Scots will raise their glasses to pay tribute to the internationally celebrated Scottish icon. Sunday is Robbie Burns Day, and would have been his 250th birthday.

Two Barrie parishes-- St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and St. Margaret's Anglican Church -- will hold celebrations this weekend to honour Burns' literary legacy.

I'm not even a jock nor celebrating Burns Night but by wierd coincidence I'm having haggis for tea tonight.
