Hey all,
Has anyone used Gmail's BCC feature? I'm fishing for a lad and want to send an e-mail to as many of them as possible in one fell swoop with the BCC function.

What i DON'T want, however, is for one of them to check the header and see that I e-mailed a ton of other people.

Do you guys know if one BCC email recipient can see the other BCC recipients anywhere in the message/header?

If you are in need of a bunch of adresses you can find a long neat list ( packed in sets of 500 each) right here:

http://www.419scam.org/lads/lotto-495.txt

All lotto lads. There is no problem with racking them up in bcc. Try and send a blank message with 500 in bcc from an account - you will have more mugus than you will know what to do with Very Happy

The answers to the original question are totally right. A BCC recipient cannot see any others in the BCC list. And this is the same in GMail or any other mail account provider, as far as I know.

But since we are in the subject of GMail, the main reason many of us here use it is because it does not reveal your IP and therefore your sent messages cannot be traced.

However, I have noticed that if you operate your GMail account through Windows Live EMail, and you send from your GMail account using this platform, in this case your IP is revealed and your message can be traced.

Am I right? Have any of you guys noticed this?

Thanks everyone for the help.

Joaquin,
I can't give you a definitive answer on that but I do remember reading a post on here a while ago where someone said something very similar (I believe they said using Outlook would log your IP in the header). Sounds better just to stay clear of e-mail programs.

Yes. The specification of SMTP says that the IP address must be recorded. Gmail obeys this. It does not record the IP address for mail received by HTTP (ie on the Gmail web page).

All other ways of accessing Gmail will use SMTP, and so will reveal the IP address.

The majority of mail providers, eg Yahoo, record the IP addresses for mail received by both SMTP and HTTP.
