I was reluctant to report this, but i figured it was better to report it and be wrong...

The return path had [email protected] what does that mean, or is it faked?

It's always ok to ask, buccaneer. When you look at spoofed headers, you can usually tell by the reply to address, which will be a free webmail rather than the address the email is supposedly coming from.

Hey Buc!

Often times the spammers use tricks with fake SMTP servers and the methods make it "appear" as if it's coming from a different email address entirely. The trick though (if they do it poorly enough) is to (using gmail) click on "show details" button at the top, where the name of the person is listed. It will show you that "oh noez!" there is a completely different email address. That email address is the one you put here.

I took a look at the surplus forum, and saw that here is yet another scammer using a legitimate URL but oh look, you gotta e-mail this guy in a freemail address.

I handled this (in another bait) by replying to BOTH (reply-to and address in the e-mail) in a bait. The reply-to from the legitimate site will bounce, then I have this question to ask them Smile

"Your e-mail bounced. What is wrong with your computer? " Smile

Got him off script. Smile

I've had spam from lottery and gambling sites in Malta. Apparently legitimate businesses, but totally unconcerned that some of the invented addresses they were spamming might exist and belong to children too young to gamble.
