The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has appointed 29 registrars to sell domain names and an eight-member auction committee to handle the sales process and says that it is set to register all domain names in the country.

The eight-member auction committee has the Vice President, NiRA and Director, Licensing at the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mrs. Mary Uduma as Chairperson. Mr. Shina Badaru, Mr. Bimbo Olayinka ,and Ms Yetunde Johnson as members.

It has fixed January 1, 2009 tentatively as the possible date to start commercial services.

The President of NiRA, Mr. Ndukwe Kalu,said that the proposed commercialisation of .ng, would allow Nigerians all over the world and other interested in the .ng open domain register .ng domains.

Registration can be done through any NiRA accredited registrars and they will offer online payment systems where domain registrations will be visible one hour later.

If the Central Bank of Nigeria want a legit domain, I bet they find every possible permutation already has a waiting list...

@ Roy, as well as the cenbank.org name that they have been using, the CBN, as well as other Government owen sites will be using official .gov.ng domain names, the CBN has had one earmarked for a long time, they have had this one for well over a year or more now:

All we have to do is send letters to the Lads saying that they have been successful in the auction.
All they have to do is fill out this zillion page application form and send it back to......

hmm, anyone got a mass lad baiter they're not using at the moment?
