On December 11, 1958, Upper Volta became an autonomous republic. In 1984 the name was changed to Burkina Faso, which means "land of upright people."
The nation is one of the poorest in the world, with 90% of the population living by means of subsistence farming, which is plagued by frequent droughts. Each woman in the country bears an average of 6 children.
The biggest cash crop there is cotton.
Hearing this on the radio this morning, I thought, "It's not a big surprise that scamming is an attractive way to make money there." |

Ah yes I remember it well. The governement of my country gave them some cash to update their phone system and the main telco for BF spent it with my company. We winstalled the roughtest toughest switching gear that we make all over the main cities. I wonder if that equipment is still operating....  |
