Hi there

I am new to the forum, but not to the site. I've been a visitor for a number of years now, from when the site started.

I am currently engaged in a scambait with a person who claims to be from my own country, but we'll see about that Razz

I have a hunch...

I am looking to up my game a bit, as my routine is getting a bit boring I think, and I am in particular looking at improving my Photoshop techniques. I absolutely love the images that some of you have sent scammers, particularly the newspaper ones, but I have no idea how to pull that off in Photoshop. I've done well with creating fake documentation, but I guess I really I need to spend time learning the software.

Anyhow, an introduction from my side I feel was in order. I am based in Southern Africa, and con-artists and 419 scammers are increasingly basing themselves here and conning the gullible public out of a lot of money.

My current ratio is low due to time constraints as I own a small electronics company, and I often don't have much time to devote to baiting in general, although my company and companies I deal with we constantly have to be alert to scams, which are of a somewhat different nature to these 419 e-mails appearing on this site. I won't bore you with the details but the common routine we are on the lookout for are fake computer/electrical/electronic companies that place large orders for goods with us and they want the orders "immediately" and want to pay "immediately" usually with a stolen check or a forged bank deposit.

One of the crooks who does this to us, has been scambaited on this site. I forget who he is but when I remember I will let you know. I am almost 100% sure it is the same person.

There are fake newspaper sites on the web. Do a google search. Just make sure when you save it, to chop off the website addy on the bottom of the "newspaper"!

What sort of documents? Sending lads fakes that can be recycled for their own scams is a bad idea.

Welcome Knuckles. I can imagine the scams you have to deal with in that line of business. If you want to know if the lad is from your country, check his IP from his email, or ask him something you think would only be known by a local.

In terms of "fake" documentation by this I mean "fake" invoices to ensure my subject thinks I sent him some dosh, etc Smile

I am trying a different routine at the moment with my current bait. The lad made me wait almost a week before replying. I thought he had either given up or bust me but today I was pleasantly surprised. He's using similar routines I've read about here.

As for the business scams, it is a local, the fool uses prepaid cellphone SIMs. We hand over his number usually to a local IT geek forum and they "take care" of him for us. Can't mention the forum name here, too risky since I am one of the admins there.

Indeed.

Making sure its something they cannot use on another victim is an absolute must I concur.

I use a different method, which I gleaned from a real invoice a couple of years back, but the result is the same.

Feel free to ask for any info pertaining to my country such as customs, local traditions and facts about ZA. This place is a crime capital, so to survive we have to be one step ahead of the mugus and lads. However that said tons of people in ZA still fall for these 419 e-mails every day.
