The QE2, which I watched being launched live on TV, left its home port of Southampton for the last time tonight. The 41-year-old liner is being taken out of service and turned into a floating hotel in Dubai. |

Didn't she run aground in the Solent somewhere during the final bon voyage? Saw the QE2 leaving Melbourne at sunset during her last visit and it was very poignant. I know the modern cruise ships are bigger and better but the old queens have soul. |

She ran aground on the way into Southampton water, the old girl didn't want to leave her home. Tugs and the rising tide got her off again.
I visited the Queen Mary at Long Beach - very sad, engines ripped out and concreted into the dock. At least not scrapped though. |
