After a year of research I have decided to have bariatric surgery in December. The program I have chosen follows their patients for five years. At a recent meeting with the psychologist (you have to have 3 sessions before surgery) I asked if I get to have a "last supper" of my favorite foods. "Yes", she replied. So I have been pondering what foods I want to eat that I know I won't get to eat ever again. Right now I am leaning towards whole grain pancakes from the International House of Pancakes but that could change tomorrow.

So I am asking for some suggestions. What would you eat if it were your last supper?

First, let me wish you a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

I think I would have a five-cheese lasagna. Marie Callender's makes one that is simply delicious, and they serve enough for three meals.

Are you going to take your nearest and dearest with you for the supper?

First, can I also offer my best wishes for your surgery? I didn't know you had medical issues, and whatever they are, I'm still not clear on their restrictions... nevertheless, all the best luck with your treatment.

My starter would be a (small) crab meat sandwich with salad leaves on brown bread with butter.

My fish course would be wok fried Monkfish with chilli, garlic, and ginger.

My main course would be Argentinian aged rib eye, grilled to medium, with Maitre d'hotel butter, crushed new potatoes, and buttered broccoli.

My sweet would be white chocolate cheesecake with some red berries.

I'd also insist on a cheeseboard that included: Brie (French of course), Parmigiano Reggiano, English Cheddar, French soft cheese with garlic and herbs, Pecorino, and Lancashire. Oh and nice juicy grapes and apples.

To finish, a glass of Calem vintage port.

Gastric banding is a serious way to lose weight. I've actually been in three of these specific surgeries (for real, and I'm not a real nurse) I was there to observe and document. Anyway, I wish you luck. You will never be able to eat any of your favourite foods again, or at least in any portion worth enjoying.

If it were to be a last supper, then it would have to be a rare Wagyu steak the size of my head. Red wine jus and pepper gravy with mushrooms and garlic onions. Topped with a Mediterranean salad with feta and great big olives. Finished off with a lemon meringue pie and fresh strawberries and cream, maybe some rich triple chocolate ice cream. I would finish with a vanilla latte.

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... good luck with the operation mate!

A 2 lb. Maine lobster , corn on the cob , a couple of pounds of steamed clams and for dessert - another lobster.

Chibuike - can you really not ever have these foods again , or will your quantites just be severely restricted ? I have a friend who is considering this type of surgery.

So many foods to choose from. I can't make up my mind. I guess I would go with a whole plate of fried chicken, some garlic mashed potatoes, corn, and stand back and watch while I explode.

I would go to the best sushi restaurant I could find; sidle up to the sushi bar with a six-pack of cold, dry Japanese beer and a bottle of good chilled sake (they used to serve it warm to hide impurities; nowadays you drink the good stuff like white wine).

I'd tell the chef to start making me things, not tell me what they are, and don't stop until either (a) I run out of booze, or (b) I fall over.

I would have to go with Beef Wellington or Sushi.

I'd not go for anything boxed or "mass produced" if you are going to have a last meal make it worth remembering.

As someone who has had two bariatic surgeries (gastric banding in 1998 and then gastric bypass a year ago), I wish you the very best. Look forward to your new life, where food won´t be that important anymore as it is now. (and feeling absolutely great without it, I have to add!!). I have lost nearly 200lbs within the first year Smile

I only know that before my gastric banding I had a fine steak as last supper. Don´t remember what I ate before my gastric bypass surgery, but I think it was some McDonald´s stuff (yeah, I admit, I like that fast food) Wink

Anyways, good luck!!! Don´t be too worried about the surgery, the pain usually is not too bad, and in case you are in pain, don´t hesitate to ask for proper meds (just make sure, that Reprob8 is nowhere near, or he will run away with them Wink Laughing )

Sorry NN, but from my personal experience this is not right. Even though I might not be able to eat some stuff anymore (which was worse with the gastric banding, but now with the gastric bypass I can eat nearly everything) but the funny thing is: I don´t WANT to eat it anymore. Things that I used to love before the surgery now make me sick, when I only think about them. When it comes to sweets (which is something very limited to eat with a bypass), i can still have a very small portion of it, but funny as it is: it is enough, and I am enjoying eating it. Very Happy

I am having gastric bypass surgery. Three years ago I developed heart problems and then this past year developed cancer which I have beaten. Sadly the drug my OBGYN gave me - Megace - one of the side effects is increased appetite which cause a huge weight gain. However, I have battled weight issues all my life.

Your food suggestions have made me hungry! Laughing After surgery I will be on 1 oz of liquid protein per meal for the first 8 to 12 weeks. Then I get mushy food! Eventually I will be able to eat solid food but not in the quantities that I am eating now. The big no no will be anything with sugar in it. So I am leaning to having a private pig out with sugar foods before my last supper. They tell me that after the surgery you no longer crave the foods you use to.....time will tell.

Thanks for the well wishes and keep those food choices coming.

Good luck with the surgery. A family member had a gastric band fitted last year and it's worked a treat. He now eats more or less what he likes but in very small quantities - the whole idea behind the proceedure. His relationship with food has totally changed and he now eats to live, instead of living to eat.

As for a last supper I'd probably go with a lovely crispy Peking duck with the pancakes, crisp onion and cucmber and hoisin sauce.

Wishing you the very best with your surgery.

Since you mentioned IHOP....This is my all time favorite breakfast 'chain food' place (cheese blintzes with strawberries, however, now they're called 'Danish Fruit crepes - sounds healthier or nicer of course, Smile

Waffle House, (that other hmmm 'chain') comes in a close second. After all, what better comfort food can you find than - hashbrowns, scattered, covered, & smothered, with the obligatory 3 egg loaded omelet, and waffle on the side of course Smile

But I think if I were you, I would choose your favorite place for brunch somewhere, since it would include breakfast, lunch, and almost your 'last supper' (depending on the place). Then you'll have the best of both worlds without limiting it to a specific meal Smile

Whatever you decide, enjoy, and savor..... Good luck, and prayers go out to you for a successful surgery.

Chicken Vindaloo, Pillau rice and a Keema Nan.
I could eat that all day, every day and never, ever get bored of it.

It's also a better way to lose weight than having a gastric band fitted. The morning after I've had one, I always lose about 5lbs.

Personnaly I'd probably begin with oysters, with vinegar sauce and a dry white wine.
Then I'd go for Goose "foie gras" (fat liver ?) with gingerbread and a sweet white wine.
Then probably a bar (seabass) with Beurre Blanc (white butter sauce), with a dry white wine again.
Then some red meat with green beans and fried potatoes, and red wine (one Bordeaux for example)
Then Cheese ! Camember, Roquefort, Brie, Bleu... with red wine.
Then Pie
Then Coffee.
And then some "digestif"

I've been through a similar thing (though not with the gastric part), and I'm happy to be able to eat quite normally now. But the good news is: while on rehab I met a whole bunch of people with your operation behind them, and they WERE eating and also enjoying it (with some restrictions, of course).

So, you're goint to be eating smaller portions, but you're definetly goint to be enjoying them.

After all pigouts aren't so great anyway.
