It's just past midwinter here, so I'll share what brightens up the garden at the moment, a few camellias, and a Kowhai (Sophora sp.) And a Tui, that wouldn't sit still long enough to get a clear pic

Brings back memories!
Had the most beautiful camelia's when we lived in the North Island. Funny growing up in the South Island and what was indoor plants there were growing outdoors where we lived after moving north.
We used to have a tui and a brilliant blue kingfisher that visited almost everyday then suddenly disappeared.
Miss that, although we now get lorikeets and cockatoo's now. Even the odd Kookaburra.

My peonies are a bit past their prime. (and I was too lazy to get the cages around them to hold them up this year)
My daylilies are just starting to open. (I have to admit, I was kind of giddy when I caught that little bee in flight)
And, I don't know what this perennial is called (the bride knows, but she is out of town) but my sedum is looking good in the background. Not much else flowering at the moment. Pics taken with an old Cannon Power Shot S1 IS 3.2 MP
Edit to add the hydrangea, my favorite. It has a month or so before it blooms. The plant in the background, with the white flowers, is a mock orange.

Nice Gnasher, there's one in flower on the street verge here as well, not as flamboyant as yours yet though
Any Banksias out as well? |

A few. We just haven't had any really cold weather this year (well, cold by my pommy standards!). Rainfall is pitiful too but that's an ongoing problem. |

The Banksia ericifolia cultivar "Little Eric" I transplanted near six months ago has come along reasonably well, considering the drought and record heat wave last March.

No prizes for guessing what my favourite variety of flowers are:
Sadly my Callistemon has struggled badly this year, and looks nothing like Gnasher's. |

@Irish - Yep its a Cordy, because all Cordys go on the left hand side of my garden in amongst the Lillies and Canna.
Phormiums go down the bottom of the garden with Fritilaria, Azalea and Crocosmia, and Yuccas in the gravel beds |

Great looking flowers all! I have been gone for a few days and have returned to find these new blooms in the perennial beds.

The pictures look absolutely amazing and I think I received the last two flowers as a bouquet couple of weeks ago. Do you know their names? |

The red/yellow one is a Blanket Flower, Gaillardia. As for the purple flower, I am not sure, but I will consult the Chief Master Gardener (First Class) and get back to you. |

I live in an apartment, so my garden is all in pots. Everyone has such beautiful, sharp photos of flowers, but somehow all of mine just keep coming out fuzzy.
Must be all the rain here lately. |

Great time of year this. Loads growing in my garden but I don't have a clue what these are. Second one is possibly a Triffid.

Pastor Frank's first one is Phlox, I think!
Slightly, I don't know the first one, second one is a Lilly and I have one just like it with a double flower. Mine grows wild in the mountains. The third is a Dianthus.
They are beautiful! |

Slightly OT but still a horticulture question (not worth a new thread). I have a lemon tree that was already here when we moved in. It's very healthy and full of fruit but they aren't like any lemons I've seen before. They are oval/lemon shaped but with a pale orange, smooth, thin skin that peels very easily just like an orange. The flesh is also a pale orange and it smells more like an orange than a lemon but when you taste it it's most definitely a lemon I'm wondering if it's some kind of lemon/orange hybrid or a specific type of lemon. I've certainly never seen them in any market or shop.
Here's a pic (yeah, I know they look like normal lemons here but they are much more orange in colour than shown)
Edit: Mystery solved! It's a variety of lemon called Myer. I'm sure you are all very relieved. |
