I was sitting at the computer, on scamwarners, actually. Suddenly there was a whump and a rumble - the rumble lasted 20 seconds or more. I heard something fall, but I can't see well, so I don't know what it was. My land line phone doesn't work, but my cell is working, as is my DSL service.

According to ABC7, it was a 5.8 temblor in Chino Hills. No major damage, but lots of stuff off shelves in that area.

Riding out an earthquake in a wheelchair is an experience. I rolled away from my computer!

This is from the USGS site - I have the site bookmarked because I check it every so often to see how bouncy our ground has been. This made a big box on the map.

Yeah, pretty scary. Up on the 11th floor, having lunch when it hit. Building swayed. And swayed. And swayed.
Heard that there are no injuries, so that's good.
Land line out for a while, but internet still up, thank goodness! Gotta feed some lies to my lads!!

Never been in a BIG one.. 3.7 before here in Virginia.

These mountains got here some time - some old fault lines though.

When there's an earthquake - at least one you can feel - the amusement parks in the area, like Disneyland, Knott's, Six Flags, etc, shut down the rides until they can assess any possible damage. People from all over the world look at each other with WTF??? expressions. Then they finish their day at the park and go back to their hotels and send postcards to their friends and family back home.

Here at our apartment complex, the pool emptied of kids really quickly. There were screams, and sobs afterwards, and a little bit of barking from little dogs. There is now no one in the pool at all.

It felt it pretty good but it was a gentle shake for me. Pretty long though. My wife was at work in a four story building so it was a little more scary for her. I believe they are saying it was a 5.4 now.

If anyone remembers the Northridge 6.6 in 92. That one scared me so bad I almost cried. I thought is was going to be the big one I have been warned about for as long as I can remember. Darn relatives and teachers ingraining fear and paranoia into me.

The biggest quake we have had in Britain in the last 25 years was back in February... a 5.2. Living not too far north from it, I slept through it all, although the earth did move for some of my friends.

6.9, stops a friggin world series, collapses a bridge, almost $10 billion in damages...

tropical cyclone, and a bit of weather, plus the minor earthquake are making life a bit difficult here.

I'm stuck at home, with power tg, as the road out is blocked by slips and an over grown stream, a few trees that decided to lay down across the road, and I've got a feeling the bridge isn't there anymore either.
