Somehow, my personal cell number, which is also the number I use for my business, got out to this phony car mortgage company. Until about a month ago, I'd get calls every hour, on the hour, from either "123-456-7890" or "234-567-8901." Yeah, a spoofed phone number sounds like a legitimate business to me.

If I picked up, I'd get some recording telling me that my car mortgage was about to expire, and to stay on the line and speak with a "mortgage specialist." They answer with the friendly "May I have the year, make, and model of your vehicle, please?"

No way I'm giving up my Ferrari's info.

I tried to ask for them to take me off their calling list about five times, each time with a different operator. Even the phrase "federal no-call list" didn't phase em. They all agreed to take me off, and sure enough I'd get another call in an hour. Finally, I got one operator's name and told him that I'd hold him personally accountable if it called again.

Guess what? It did.

I had to wait for them to call again, because their spoofed numbers obviously didn't work for incoming calls. When they did, I demanded to speak to a manager/don/slavedriver, and was on hold for over forty minutes.

They finally stopped calling after I put the phone up to my computer speaker and played an extremely loud high-pitched noise. As much fun as that was, it wasn't worth a phone call every hour of my life for a month.

Anybody else deal with these guys?
