Funny.. what I really think is the world *would* be a better place without scum like this.

Anywho, my lawyer at just happens to have alot of experience with NGO's, dispersing funds to charities, and dealing with finances for important causes just like this one..

I emailed him and told him I want to help the children. "Melvin" responded quickly and said the world is a better place with people like me in it. This kind of person makes my blood boil. I am going to make sure he is in for a long and fruitless battle. Any ideas on how to drive him crazy are welcomed. Looks like he is going to be spending a lot of time and money at that internet cafe.

If a few of us decide to send him on a safari to the same place, he may decide that it is worth his time to travel?

I emailed him. When he replied he personalized his response to my character. It surprised me quite a bit because the few other lads I have emailed just continue onto their next script. This guy is smart though. He knows that personalizing it makes the victim feel more a part of it. He knows it also makes him look as they he took the time to read the email.

I asked if I could make my donation direct to the (legit) ActionAid UK address. He wants me to send it to a bank in Taiwan!
But he will send an acknowledgement to them...and "the Almighty will bless me and replenish me for my kindness".

Well, I would now like to make my donation under the UK "Gift Aid" scheme....this is administered by the UK Revenue & Customs, and allows legit charities to reclaim tax on donations received. Lets see how he gets round that....

This scam has the potential to bring in lots of money quickly and while we are all having a go at wasting his time real victims are still sending their money. Therefore we really need to get this guys account/s closed fast. I assume Alan has the details right?

Do we need to co-ordinate amongst us what account details we received as he probably has a few, right?

I don't want to be wasting Alan's time sending him bank details if someone else has already done so.

Appreciate any advice on this one.

"Lo Shiny Co. Ltd." googles as a shoe company which looks to be real, guess they could be in league with him!

its a bit worrying to see that the action aid website still dont have a warning up. I think this scam has the potential to take a lot of money as it sounds fairly legit (for a scam). A lot of people could be taken in by it and a simple message on their website could save a lot of people a lot of money, especially as the scammer includes a link to the site in his email

^^^^ I sometimes deal with charities in my work, and I have to say that ActionAid doesn't impress me as being a particularly progressive organisation at all.

And they have had previous scams:-

For example, I looked through their website and found no easy link (or any link actually?) to the UK Gift Aid system. This is a dead easy quick system whereby they can get tax back (nearly 20%) on individual's donations (and some high-income doners can get even more).... almost every UK charity I've ever dealt with naturally encourages doners to use it.

Don't like criticising charities, but maybe they need to get their act together a bit. Confused
