The Greenwich meridian, or zero longitude, is the point from which all other time zones are calculated and it never changes. The line of zero longitude passes through the site of the Royal Observatory which also houses the National Maritime Museum. The site for both is here, and if you are ever in London, I recommend a visit. There are boat trips down the Thames which stop by the Cutty Sark, and it's an easy enough walk from there up the hill to the home of GMT. You'll also get some cracking views of London from there, not to mention my old house just across the river. Very Happy And make sure you stop at the pie shop by the Cutty Sark - traditional pie and liquor and the best rhubarb crumble in London. You can get over to the north side of the Thames (Isle of Dogs) via the foot tunnel, and then pay a visit to Canary Wharf, which is a stark but stunning contrast to the south side.

Sorry for the hijack, Rover. I couldn't resist - it's my old stamping ground. Very Happy
