From what I have been reading it seems like these people mainly come out of Nigeria. Why not call the Police in nigeria? I have a guys address and telephone in Nigeria that tried to scam me the other day.would it work? |

We give the lads addresses and phone numbers all of the time- they can't find us. Same concept. |

It would be nice if it were that easy. The criminal underground in Nigeria, as far as scams go, has so many levels that finding a certain scammer is impossible. |

The sentiment is a good one, Jayman, but it's impracticable. The address may be false, but if it's real, you can't link whoever lives there to the lad cos the name's false, for sure. The mobile will be unregistered and/or paid for with a stolen or cloned credit card. His email addresses will all be disposbale and in fake names, and he'll have received any money he gets via Western Union using fake names. They generally leave little behind but that horrible slimey trail that snails make. Even if there was no risk that the police were corrupt (and I don't think every last one is corrupt) they would not be interested, cos there is very little they can do. From time to time, they raid internet cafes and arrest scammers, but even that may be dwindling, since cafes are struggling for business now, it seems (see here). |

Jayman6969, with all due respect, what you have been reading is not enough.
'These people' do not 'mainly come out of Nigeria' although Nigeria is certainly a hot-spot for scammers. Scams are initiated world-wide.
Wherever the scam comes from, there is not much that can be achieved unless you know the identity of the scammer and can also prove that a crime has been committed.
The address and telephone number you have (or believe you have) of someone who 'tried to scam me' (you) is undoubtedly false and untraceable.
Just think about it realistically; what are you asking the police to do?
Go chasing moonbeams?
Most police organisations will willingly follow up a crime, especially if there is a victim and a known perpetrator, but in the instance you quote there is no direct evidence of either. |

Thanks tss1961,
We've seen 5781 news reports of crackdowns by the Nigerian EFCC.
However, they remain an ineffective and inept force unable to make an impression on the corruption they were tasked to eradicate. |

Don't expect the UN to do anything either. Besides a stern, but nicely written letter to Nigeria. |

Even better than the African Police, I'm currently dealing with the 'All Ecowas and African States Department (A.E.A.S.), which seems to be the West African equivalent of Scotland Yard.
They seem very helpful, albeit a little short tempered: alas I can be short-tempered back, at least it makes our email exchanges fun I can give you their email address if you like [email protected]
Whadd'ya mean, you don't think the police operate from a Yahoo address? They must do, how else would they have given the FBI a warrant for my arrrest? |

Lads operate worldwide, so no single police force can catch them!
To get a lad arrested is very tricky, and its almost impossible to verify.
Calling the UK police for example you will be told "dont answer the email" they get thousands of complaints daily about internet fraud. And every other country gets just as many there is no force BIG ENOUGH to deal with all the scammers online.
There ARE some ways to get them arrested, but thats rare.

I think that is actually offensive, its called 419 scams because item 419 of the nigerian law.
As for what you have read, the best scams i know of are the tattoo of a lad in belgium france *gate fame!
Some russian romances
And about 10 others from holland/spain/ uk
one very naughty secret video depicted a male in glasgow or scotland trainstation waiting - i call it a naughty video as safety rules say you should NEVER get that close to a lad! |
