Those of you who have the high end video cards actually own super computers, more powerful than the ones in japan!

How - well in the graphics card is a little set of 128 processing pipes - meaning most of the cards such as nvidea can handle 300+ gigaflops per second with the cpu doing around 3 gigaflops - giving you a real supercomputer status as home.
Many super computers handle around 200 gigaflops.
but no one uses it Sad

shame really, i always wanted to calculate 42.

I know, digital-one. i wasted trillions of gigaflops in the past few minutes, just writing this post-lover reply to you. But, it looks real pretty on the screen! Smile

nah there is a purpose to my post, not just an idle weird fact.

theres a few geniuses on eater, now if we tap into that unused potential, by passing data from the cpu, over to the gpu, and back whilst its doing nothing - and until someone writes something for it to do it will always be doing nothing - your machines will be in essence 100 times faster.

the reference to japan isnt just because it is faster than there super computers its because japan run a supercomputer running earth sim, a real full world predicting people movement, wind, rain, events the lot.

So a lad sim, showing the country trends for lads you could do it if you utilize the processor power we now have available.

instead of projects like seti searches for ET, we can use that massive power to literally lad search!

Or build some crime detecting super search thing, nvidea kept it quiet for a long time, then some day just announced all casually "well yea if the cpu used that gpu then 300+ gigaflops on the 8800 nvideas but its not used. most of the architecture is for games that was invented by us but overlooked, but we know its there now and the capabilites

Imagine that they invented it - and didnt know!

I have a old coal fired steam powered computer with a wind up backup. does that mean I have a stoopid computer?
