Hi everyone,

I've never seen this site before, and only happened upon it when I started searching the net for remedies to scam dating. Serendipity it seems, I had no idea there was entire culture devoted to this. Kudos to all, this is brilliant.

Anyhow, the story...

I have 2 My$pace accounts, one with an old (defunct) email address that I -never- check, and the one I use that is up to date etc. I accidently check my old one yesterday (put in wrong email addy) for the first time in ages to find an email from someone named J3nny. She seems to have emailed me from a friends My$pace account, and wants to have coffee with me. This is over 6 months ago.

Anyhow, "J3nny" is from a small township about an hours drive away, one that I know very well. In fact I know several people that live there. In that community of 300 or so people. There isn't a J3nny amongst them, especially one with the god awful last name of Ra3k3r-R3b3k.

So I email her from my "spam" email account. I set up my spam account after getting spammed too much. Idiots, websites, etc etc get the spam address. No-one gets my other proper address unless I know where they live.

So after not hearing from me for 6 months, I mail her, and she gets back to me within an hour. Pretty good response time. Poor girl, she must have been tossing and turning for so long. Her email has a timestamp 7 hours behind mine, which I know for a fact is California, since my best friend lives there. I live in Australia. She doesn't live over the mountain from me - disappointing, but maybe if I'm lucky I'll get to send her money to come over here.

A quick search of the text in her email and on her website (yes, I got the address, along with pics - she should have said NSFW, since I was at work when I visited the site) shows that the spiel has been used several times on several accounts on My$pace and other scam sites.

So, an overview...

J3nny doesn't know my real email addy from My$pace
My My$pace site has no details of me apart from username and my pic
I have made initial contact from my spam address
My spam address has no personal details apart from my first name
J3nny is now awaiting a reply from me - no demands have been made as yet, apart from YIM and some "get to know you" questions.

Thoughts anyone? This will be my baiting cherry...

Hi & welcome to the Eater. Fun place, isn't it? Smile

First, get the headers from her email then check using http://headertool.apelord.com/ (copy & paste the header) to see where the mail originates - assuming it's not a 'gmail' or other I/P stripping addy.

If you are using an email addy yourself that shows your location or Country, get yourself an anonymous one and bait her from that. Gmail, Hushmail, Fastmail are all good ones.

Bait away & see where it goes. When the money question arises (as it will), there are many experienced people here to advise on WU's that don't scan properly, excuses as to why MG doesn't exist in your town . . it can take weeks, many visits by the scammer to pick-up funds that don't exist - all you need do is to bait safe

If she is a scammer, post whatever evidence & pics you have on Romancescams or any of the other dating scam websites.

Feel free to ask questions & I'd recommend signing up for a mentor if you plan to do this often (it can become addictive) Very Happy

Go slow, do not ask for trophies right up front. A lad will see this as evidence that you are wasting their time and twig. Start out compliant and dumb. He/she will get around to asking for the money when the time is right. This may take some emails though, get their confidence in you solid (called setting the hook). Mostly, just have fun with it.

Okay, so I've got the IP address and done a trace on it. Turns out it's A0L, sent form a yah00 email address. I really wish I had all my old IP trace software, especially the one that told me the exact street address where the IP address was registered to. Pity that.

Anyhow, I'll update when I get a reply to the next email i send =D

PS My flatmate and my ex want in on it. I may need coaching in the near future on how to incorporate others to lead to credibility, so I may call on you guys for help :p

Your story is a bit like how I got here. Good old Myspace. Only I'm an older, divorced female. The romance lads LOVE me. Today I have about 15 different Myspace pages and have collected probably 100 or more lads.

Of all my pages, two are dogs and one is a male character I created. The rest are lonely single women. One I use my real name which is almost as common as Mary Smith and the other I use my real picture. The one I use my real picture is the best. I'm a lad magnet. Very Happy

I'm not sure you have a lad Andro. My one male character gets hits now and then from young female scammers, but they usually are just trying to entice him over to porn sites. I'm sure there's some credit card phishing going on as well. Their pages are quickly reported and Myspace bans them.

Yeah the link to "her" website has an 18+ link down the bottom, which goes straight to pr0n. Not sure why the link is 18+, cos the pic directly above it is somewhere in the range of 23+ if you know what I mean.

I'll respond to the email (which is a stock email by the looks... searches on Google for the text turn up a heap of hits of identical emails), and see where it goes.
