Is there a single point (a glossary) wherein the more arcane expressions used within these fora might be defined for those less gifted?

The meanings of the vast majority of these special terms can be gleaned by reading a large number of postings. The word in question slowly begins to become a bit less drumlie with each use by a veteran member.

The term "postwhore", however, has thus far eluded me. On its face, it doesn't seem to be a particularly complimentary term. However, the topics within this topic do not seem to be any more nasty than the usual posting.

Is a postwhore one who posts simply for the sake of posting? In that case, I might now be on the slippery slope to a new appellation. If I don't watch out.

If I have correctly inferred the meaning of the term, is one entitled to put "PW" behind his/her signature as in:

Regards,

Sum Dum Bass, JD, PhD, PW

PS We really need a single word for "his or her". The term "his" used to apply to all humankind, but 52% of the population took offense, and justifiably so.

The word "their" is grammatically incorrect. A perfect word must exist in a language other than English.

I shall retreat to the comforting pages of my Dictionary of Lowland Scotch to seek out likely candidates. I know about 12 words in Turkish, and most of them have to do with food. Romance languages are right out as even inanimate objects have genders.

Native peoples in Alaska (USA), Greenland, and other such polar dwellers have a large number of words for "snow", depending upon small variations in its character in composition. That is because they have a use for multiple words, and gluing together a string of adjectives to come before "snow" takes time. German speakers have no problem with gluing any number of nouns and adjectives together to manufacture a new ad-hoc term for just about anything.

They don't much use articles in Russian, and I don't know much Russian. Somehow, my Grandmother's kindly offer to teach me the Russian language when I was a child did not seem to be such a good idea in the early 1950s in America.

This is getting dangerously close to politics and/or postwhoring, so I'll stop.

But I really do want to know if a glossary exists. (One is not supposed to start a sentence with the word "but", either. The rules of English grammar are beginning to annoy just a bit.)

The FAQ in Scambaiting help has a list of some of the more common baiting terms and their definitions.
http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=137846#3

There have been questions about many of the board terms, so a search will usually pull up anything not covered there, and you have already worked out postwhore for yourself. Very Happy

It doesn't have everything, though. It took me a while, for instance, to figure out what RSOT stands for, and then what the heck "Red Seal Of Truth" meant. Ditto for NoK.

Although I voted option #2, I have to say that it takes some time to learn the "lingo". Having a scambaiting son who shall remain nameless (Radden), I did have a little help.

I object to answering the polled question as the majority of answers to the question are themselves, questions.

As to postwhoring -- today's PWs are mere shadows of their predecessors.

Admittedly 419eater can be a complex place to the newcomer, but in a way, I think that's what makes it rewarding.
I suppose that if the glossary could be expanded, it would be, but I suspect it probably makes it less appealing to read to a newcomer. It's a bit like learning a dialect or language, sure you could have a massive list of words, but a newcomer will never take them all in. But on the other hand, as you get used to the forum in general, these new terms come to you very quickly.
Enjoy the learning curve Jelly, it's fun really! Wink

Learning is part of the charm here. If it was easy "everyone" would be doing it! Wink

Search can help, but not telling all of the secrets is the way that the "establishment" can tell whether you have read all of the stickies. Shocked

Officially you can use PW behind your name as long as you have documentation (i.e., and arrest record or are called such by another member) or you know where Reaper lives. Laughing

Jellyroll, once you get to understand the forum expressions and acronymns, you can try to figure out the meaning of the real heavy stuff like Pink Ponies and Rose icons. Next step is to earn them.

[edit] - just noticed, everyone answering to this thread so far (except Mod Eight) has one or more ppp's !

So, nu, what do the pp's, buns, and roses stand for?
(It said in the FAQ to ask. So I'm asking).
