With all the trojans and other sundry scripted malware being coded into so many unsuspecting websites these days, users of popular internet browsers have more to worry about than ever. Your machine can be infected just by visiting a compromised site. This is why I use & heartily recommend Sandboxie. It's a free app that allows you to open Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. in a "sandboxed" environment, totally isolated from your machine's innards. The learning curve is easy & the protection is awesome! Grab it & give 'er a whirl . . .

And good virus scanners intercept HTTP traffic too.

I believe that Firefox effectively runs in a sandbox already. The sandbox is required by M$ programs because they are inextricably connected to the OS and will auto-launch any executable they find due to how M$ designed it. This is extremely insecure. Firefox is not attached to the OS and doesn't try to run executable files it finds. If you like and run M$ products then it is a good idea. A much better idea is to not run M$ products and learn how to surf safety. And run a scanner.
