This doesn't apply to huge inheritances that could have been but it I think this is a relevant example of what happens when everyone sees or hears about so many scams. We have a hard time accepting potentially real opportunities.

I don't know if the following is a real opportunity or a scam but it could easily be both.

What if that really is a smokin deal on a car? If it is real, I wonder how many people saw it, wanted it, and said to themselves "That's gotta be a scam"

"What if?" Most people will never know cause they have to make the conscious decision to protect themselves. It's pretty shitty really.
