edit to add-did pay the money for an ex gf to get a car-i ended up with the payments and she took the car.

A walk to my nearest shop and back would take me 90 minutes. I'm not talking the nearest supermarket, but the nearest shop of any kind. I've lived in places a car was unnecessary for, but here it's an absolute must.

Here in Hong Kong in most places you don't need a car. Mass transportation is so good that it's not necessary to spend tons on gas and especially parking.

I used to have a car in Germany, and there I didn't want to miss it, but here I don't see why I should drive, although I love driving, and driving fast.

Happily, I don't own a car. Only a 20 minute walk to work which is very pleasant usually.

I was born in*******, and my father works there. If it does bite, then I refuse to use public transport. I will convert my car to run on water or buy an electric car.

There's no speeding if there's no speed-limit, right? Wink

And I don't plan to kill anybody, neither myself nor others, I drive according to the situation, and to my knowledge of the car. With a car I haven't driven before I surely don't drive like with a car I have driven for a couple of years.
But if the situation allows it I'm comfortable with the needle on the right side of the meter.

I don't know what country you live in but every country has speed limits for each different type of road. Speed kills.

If you hit a pedestrian in your car at 40mph then they have an 80% chance of dying. If You hit them at 30mph they have a 80% chance of surviving. End of.

When I brought up the cost of gas vs driving with my little ones they used the phrase inflexible demand on me. In my neighborhood the city/county/state/nation allowed a major oil company, car company, and tire manufacturer to buy up the trolley cars and create an artificial reef. In my county we really are stuck in our cars. Yesterday I bought a thousand dollars worth of tires and got a $60.00 cash card. I used the cash card to buy a tank of gas. If I could figure how to safely get to the nearest train station on my bike and secure it, i would love to ride the train in.
Edit: I have two bikes that need tires badly too. They are so thin that I can see the air in them. At $50.00 a pop, that's $200.00 and no the bike shop does not give cash card rebates.

I could do without it, yes. I only use it to go and get the shopping, but at a push I could walk it, (the shop is 20 minutes walk away) but I'd just have to go more often due to the weight. In fact I have done without a car for long periods in the past.
I do tend to think about the environment, I only drive a very small car and I only use it a couple of times a week. I use the tube trains and buses far more often, they're cheap, and in London they're usually quicker than using the car.

Walking to work is an option if I started 2 hours in advance and was brave enough to walk for 2 hours after midnight. Shocked
