Fellow Eaters, please help if you can.

My corporate email address, and that of a co-worker, is being used in spam emails advertising everything from watches to ...well, you can guess.

Our corporate email ISP is Yahoo (urgh), so they're no help at all.

How can I block or kill the spammers from this?

I can look up headers and identify the IP's, but where can I go from there?

Close down those addresses and start new ones. Or get a new domain and server that the corporation owns and put in filters. Nothing more to do.

I can't believe a corporation is using yahoo for their company email. How tacky. Smile

Everyone that uses Yahoo email receives spam. You might try switching your corporate email address to the corporate account that hosts your company website, and close down the Yahoo accounts.

Why is your company using Yahoo accounts in the first place? Confused

^^the corporate account is going thru the web host; my boss is the email administrator; maybe he's never done anything with their filters ...

Maybe a suggestion to your boss that he use the filters will help. He can also change your email addresses in the host account which will get rid of the spam.

Just to clarify here, are you saying that spammers are sending out email with your address(es) showing as the sender, or are you angry with the volume of spam coming into your inbox?

The replies so far are addressed to the latter situation -- you're buried in spam. But I'm reading your post differently. My business address (my own domain, in my real name) is often used by spammers. I get swamped in Mailer-Daemon notices of failed deliveries. The problem is that there's nothing I can do, they haven't hacked my account, they're simply spoofing my address. I seriously doubt they picked me deliberately to give me a hard time, they simply harvest addresses and spoof them as the sender to try to evade some spam filters. It bugs the hell out of me but there's nothing anyone can do about it. Only once has someone sent me a nasty email telling me to stop spamming them, most of the trash that has gone out with my name as the sender simply gets caught in the spam trap or deleted by the receiver.

^^ That's the situation; I'm getting email TO me, "johndoe@xyz".... FROM "johndoe@xyz" and at least one co-worker has noticed the same with their own corporate email address.

It sounds as if my best bet is to say there's nothing that can be done with the system that is set up and recommend they move on (or get a better system)

Alas, nothing you can do. If they're spoofing your address as the 'sender' then it has nothing to do with your filters, settings, or security.

You could always get a warning placed on your website if it is the same as the suffix to your email.

^ don't think that makes sense. So, if your corporate email is [email protected] and your company website is www.ihasacorporateemail.com then some potential vics might try to check your website for details.

It might not be possible as you said your boss is an arse biscuit.

A company can change the email addresses of its people. At my last job, someone started emailing me from outside the company, someone that had worked at the company previously. This person would send NSFW jokes and other stuff. I asked him to stop because it would get me in trouble. He wouldn't stop, so the IT dept. changed my email address.

If your boss or whomever changes your email address, that should solve the problem since your old address will no longer be active.
