Do remember IP filtering is a VERY crude tool, here's why...
In the beginning was the IP(4) namespace, 4 sets of numbers in the hex range 0-FF (0-255 in decimal). This gave 256^4 addresses, a very big number. Some were reserved for funky network stuff (127.x.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 192.168.x.x, etc), but most were up for grabs. Then the internet got big, and IP addresses became scarcer, so ISP's started dishing them out only whilst a client was connected, and giving the client an internal IP address (10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x usually), and then using a real IP address for the internet, and translating between the two (internal network and internet-facing) IP addresses - NAT (Network Address Translation). All well and good, but now anyone using that ISP may have the same apparent IP address as any other user of that ISP. If you block one IP address, you block many people purely on the strength that one out of many was naughty.
If the IP6 camp get their way, the IP address range will go from 256^4 to 256^6, the namespace will increase to a very very big number indeed. Enough addresses to do away with the requirement for NAT, but the other camp say keep NAT to ease security. If the IP6 guys win, then blocking IP addresses is fair again, but if the NAT guys win, IP addresses will only ever be a crude indication of who's on the other end. And if we include the effect of zombie botnet proxying, it's too crude to be useful.

The first reply is something of an indicator. Some of the blocks are due to members who misbehave and get kicked off. Some are posting pornography. However there are many scammers there and with the full range of methods. Still albeit crude, but if it makes some difference to the site then it is how it is. This is still fighting scams on the front line. BAITING IS FUN, but I am doing serious Dolla Chopping. Thank you for this anyway. I felt the list was of use to someone somewhere. |

First we need to know what service provider you are using, for directions on how to show full headers. It varies for different email providers. You may be able to get details from your Help files. There is an article on this site, but I cannot locate it right now
Then use a program like this
http://headertool.apelord.com/headers
Copy and paste your full header into this program. The last IP is usually the one you need. |

I think I would be very hesitant to start blocking IPs just because they appear in some list posted anonymously on the internet. |
