The link that follows is from a English teacher's forum in Korea.

A member of that forum (merlot) recieved a scam letter, ran with it, and has actually created and defined a new genre---a fiction/non-fiction hybred neo-genre, if you will.

It's funny as hell!

On behalf of the cautious Eater members I've checked the link and its safe.

However, if you visit the linked thread be prepared for some reading that isn't user-friendly like Eater.
There's quote after quote after quote and huge long URLs that bloat your page to an unimaginable width. Shocked

That's a nice fun bait. Well worth the read.

Now if only Merlot would turn up here, he wouldn't have to waste so much time on scheming for the impossibilities. That address in London may be a safe drop box, but is just as likely to be owned by another victim. Nothing in the bait suggested to me that Vanessa was in the UK.

Please understand merlot is more interested in the literature aspect of this than anything else. However, any advice would be appreciated as he just stumbled into this and has no experience in these matters,

^^^ Gmail strips the IP address of Vanessa's PC, so that can't be used to locate her. www.readnotify.com offers a free trial, and that will report on where in the world an email was read. Unfortunately in gmail she's got to click on a green banner to "display attached images" before it will do so. The best way to get her to do that might be to put an image in the mail that she wants to see, and put it in as an image link to a website.

The literature angle is an interesting one; two stories unfolding in parallel as if in two different universes.

merlot just ended the story in a way that "Vanessa" was never informed that she was known as a commom scammer, and at the same time--most certainly leaving her frustrated.

The story had a begining, a middle and a end. All the elements of a traditional story were in place with the added dimension of mixing reality with fantasy in a cohesive way that produced a very unique piece.
