A new kind of telephone fraud is becoming very popular in China. Telephone or mobile user will receive a coming call, which just makes ring one time, and then hang up. If the victims call back in call ID, they will be charged for $5 to $50 per minute. All supplementary solutions from telecom corporartions is that they block these suspicious number one by one. But there is still so many victims has to pay for amazing phone bills each month. Does anybody give a description about how does the fraud system work, and how can we stop this?

I get them all the time.

Text spam is pretty ripe here and most people delete them. The phone calls are a way around this and are mostly just a way of getting you to ring back and listen to a pre-recorded message.

In China you can use a recorded message or a song to replace your dial tone, so that the person calling hears something rather than the normal dial tone. In most cases when you call back the spammers the phone in question never actually picks up - what you hear is just the customized dialing tone, which would be an advert for something crap - usually some twat selling receipts to people/companies who need to dodge taxes.

It's not common to be billed for these calls.
