Got a flyer in the mail today (yes we do get mail here, twice a week Wink

), with minimum info, promising a lot and a link to this website http://pigeonkinginternational.com/index.html

They give no numbers, just promises, ten year contracts, guaranteed fixed prices, just too good to be true. But I could be wrong Smile

I have eaten pigeon before, but was told that all they're good for is soup. Maybe a $36 pigeon tastes better, but that's then a tasty and expensive bite.

Normally we see pigeons here as air rats and they are free to kill.
But........ What do you think?

I think it's for racing pigeons. You'd probably have to selectively breed them, and raising, training and selectively breeding each pigeon is probably gonna cost more than the $8 they will pay per bird.

Saying that, i could be a massive liar.

It seems pretty nicely laid out. they have a 5 year contract on the website.

I'd say if it is a scam, it's probably not the take your money and run kind.

Ring the free number and get a free pack. Can't hurt.

Actually a really interesting read, and I went into the whole Ponzi background too. Fascinating stuff.

As one of the articles I saw relating to this points out...

Take the pigeons out of the equation, and it becomes quite quickly apparent this is a Ponzi scam...(where later investors subscriptions pay the returns to the former investors).

Where x is pigeons - x is sold for $500 with the guarantee to buy back the products of x at $8-$50 a time, however x has negligible value on the open market, only as a part of this scheme, so in reality x can be anything with negligible value (bonds, dodgy emeralds, ostriches, earthworms, etc) and as long as the scheme keeps growing, everyone maintains the dizzy illusion of all being well. Of course the growth is finite, and it all turns to chalk sometime or other, usually with the guy in the middle skipping the country.

It may well be that pigeons are the future of protein and breeding them for meat is a truly cost-effective way of feeding your family - in that case, collect up a few dozen pigeons you find flying around and start breeding them yourself - but with no existing market for the meat, you'd better be really into pastilla (which is a delicious Moroccan pigeon dish), or have a huge commercial deep freeze. Maybe you will develop your own local market, free enterprise is to be encouraged, but that whole buyback at above market value scheme looks like trouble waiting to happen.
