Greetings,

I have been working with this idiot since October 2007 on getting this "deal" completed. After several attempts fell through, he sent me this reservation confirmation for a hotel in Dubai (below).

I don't want to spend the $$$ calling the hotel to confirm (or risk the call being traced back to me), but I was wondering if someone with more experience here could tell me if it is a fake or not.

The Hotel phone number points to Dubai, but the complaint numbers at the bottom to Sydney Australia ? Maybe someone down-under can ring that bell for you?
Edit:
If you visit the website at the bottom then you'll find a booking service that anyone can use, you should ask him for page 2 of that form that's where he has to give his credit card number and I'm afraid he might not have done that
And Edit again, check with a safe addy the addy at the bottom and see if....

There was a second page sent, but it was only the continuation of the first one that had a signature area on it that I should "sign" to confirm that I am the person for whom the reservation was made.

Is it possible to get that far in a fake reservation without giving the credit card info?

That's easy, save the page on your computer and type in the Fake credit card info yourself. Make a print of it and scan it as a jpg (if you have no scanner, send it to your fax machine and give your own fax number, you'll find it busy and your fax will save it for you Laughing

) and there you go.
Nothing online is "safe" all can be manipulated

I was just hoping that this mugu was actually spending some of his own money... I just wanted to find a way to tell him that it was fake (i.e. I checked it out and they had no record of it). Being truthful, this armpit has tried this several times already and I have been able to verify that it had not been done, resulting in a rather large slap.

I was hoping that this lad had given up trying to trick me and had done the reservation for real, which would determine the next steps in this ongoing bait. If this was for real, I would need him to send me a pic of himself, as I would never allow a complete stranger to escort me from the airport with all that cash on my person. If I was successful there, I would simply claim that I never saw him at the airport and would leave in disgust.

No harm done, just tell him that your travel agent checked the reservation and needs to see the receipt for it so he can refund it. If... then he'll be happy to make one up and if.... he has one ready. My bet? He'll make one up.

The picture thing is easy, send one of "yourself" holding a sign with strange text and his name, then add this website http://www.newsignstandard.com/ so he can see for himself that's common in the rest of the world and ask him for a picture with text so you can see who you're dealing with and will recognize him on the airport like an old friend. Twisted Evil

If your picture is too hard to do, find the Marvinator and ask politely if he would have time to...
You'll do just fine

Edit: but for IRS reasons you still need a receipt of the reservation from him, keep him working for you.

You can also tell the mugu, that you will be traveling to his country.
Because you did not like that hotel you will get a new hotel when you arrive.

I tried the number and got a recorded message relating to hotel services. I don't know if this helps either.

He thinks I'm rich beyond his wildest dreams (one delay was while I put a 30 million dollar addition onto my business in the extreme north of Canada. He swallowed that one like Linda Lovelace swallowed the object of her desires).

Our arrangement is that I will be travelling on my own private jet (I DO own a plane, but it is a little four seater), therefore there is no way for him to verify my travel plans. He thinks I can arrive at any time convenient to him. Of course, I will come out from a different door than what would be normal and I simply missed him.

I will go for a copy of the receipt, though, as my government requires it. This would make for a nice trophy, although knowledge of his having spent some $$$ makes me happy. The gift thing is a good idea too... I forgot about that modality.

On another note, this fellow must travel on occasion, as his IP normally checks out from Lagos, however, he did try to get me to go to Accra on one of the failed occasions, and while he was in that "mode", his IP did check out from there and his writing style did not change (he seems to be very fluent in English).

Thanks for all your help... this will be fun.

Following up, it does appear that this reservation is legit... I sent an email to the hotel's booking agent (it is in Australia as was pointed out in a response earlier in this thread) and the reservation is indeed made. I woldn't be surprised that the mugu used a stolen credit card to secure the reservation, but here's hoping that it was his real one.

I've been "working" with this barrister since October 2007 - I've threatened to walk away several times and he always comes back.

He's expecting me to arrive with 60,000 pounds cash to set up the bank account for the transfer.

I already missed his 14 Mar 2008 reservation, but it was all his fault, as he told me on Monday that he would email me in precisely three days with the "modus operandi"... I didn't hear from the twit until Saturday, so he'll get the appropriate disciplinary action on Monday, as I had apparently gone away for the weekend on Friday when I didn't hear from him.

You want to thank him by buying him a new laptop.
