i am running FF and now have lost atleast half of my bookmarks.

is there anyway of retrieving them
i havent tried a system restore as of yet

any ideas????

Is it possible that you left clicked on them and dragged them to a folder? Unfortunately very easy to do and bloody annoying. Something I do frequently.

I am not sure where they went, but when you find them try this nifty tool. It backs up all of your FF profile, including your bookmarks. It has saved my tail many times.

after doing the google bit and it appears this is a common fault with FF users.
i found the file with all my bookmarks in and now sorted them back.

you really dont miss something until its gone.

I always save my favourites to a html file and save it to my documents folder, I also email it to myself in case the computer crashes.

I had shed loads of problems not so long ago with my computer. I ended up uninstalling FF and reinstalling it, amongst other things. All my favourites were miraculously still there, which was a bit of a bonus. I'm not suggesting you do that but I was resigned to losing all mine and I didn't. Shocked

On my other PC, FF inexplicably dumped all my bookmarks after an update; I came pretty close to freaking out, since I have no idea where I originally found most of those tools....then, they showed back up a few hours later.

It back up your whole FF environment (you can customize the settings)... great for back up and for new portables (when I change USB sticks)...

Firefox saves a backup of your bookmarks. In linux it is in the .mozilla/firefox/profile/bookmarkbackups. I can't say exactly where windoz stores it but I know it does. Probably in the user firefox profiles directory.
