I know to some of you its a big bore, but some of us have waited months for our next fix, and its here. Qualifying from Albert Park, Melbourne starts on ITV at 2am, I reckon there'll be an hour of pre-qualifying filler though.
Kimi was quickest in practice, Lewis second, then both their teamates.
Let battle commence, less traction control and other driver aids, should be good. |

Come on Lewis - but it's Kimi's title this year.
J.Button should do better |

F1 is great.
Every second sunday during the F1 season the streets are swept free of proletarians for a few hours. |

Removing traction control is the first step; put back manual transmissions and make them show they are real drivers, not just system mangers. The amount of sliding shows they can't manager a car on their own, they have lost the feel. That is pretty disappointing. Women drive automatics, men can shift for themselves. |

Previous exchange had nothing to do with the topic so was removed. |

boo! F1 has begun, in the worst, and possibly best fashion. Raikkonen 16th, Alonso 12th. At least there is some consolation... |

The best is Kubica in turn 14. 4 wheel drift under power. The way racing is suppose to be. Nothing much bad. Except maybe M$ involvement. I'm waiting to see when they have to stop the race to reboot the controllers. |

I don't understand the stupid rule about making gearboxes last four races this will stop the drivers from giving 100%, i stayed up this morning to watch qualifying but fell asleep before the last session |

I shall be watching the Australian GP at 0600 in Belarus.
My expectation is that David Coulthard will feature strongly in the running before having to retire.
Hamilton to win.
I'll wait to find egg on my face. |

I live about 5 miles from Albert Park and I can hear them revving up now....... 5 mins to the start. It's stinking hot (+38C, nearer 45 on the track) and the Brit fans are already dropping like flies from heatstroke. Good times. |

Gnasher,
You are a bit premature.
The start is not until 0430 GMT. |

Wow! What a race this is turning out to be. I mean, Hamilton winning isn't exactly my cup of tea, but oh wow, 7 cars will finish...
Poor Sebastien Bourdais, poor Kimi Raikkonen, and congratulations to Nico Rosberg. |

Typo - I meant 35 mins. It's the heat and excitement. BIG hoohah here about the start time and whether Australia gets any kind of GP at all. Big Bernie wants a night race so the Europeans can watch over their coffee and croissants at breakfast time. I think that today's hot weather (exceptional for March) might persuade a few people that a night race when it cools down a bit would be a good idea after all. |

I will bet it has to do with trying to reduce the cost of racing. If every team has to make the transmission last the same time, every team will save the same amount of money. A big team like Ferrari can build a new trans every race; while a budget team will try to make it last a few races. It tends to even the team's budget effects. |
