I have been a member here for several months and just recently got a bit more involved than before. I was telling a friend I work with about a couple of the baits i was working on, so thats how he knew about the scams... His mother who is retired was telling him about a proposal sent to her of some inheritance and he was able to let her know about them. He told her to send me the email... I responded back to her what the jist of those type emails are about, advised her to spam the email, by all means dont respond to them and directed her to this site to come and look around... Laughing

So as it turns out... a possible elderly vic was caught at an early stage because of me simply bragging to a co worker about some funny baits i had going on Wink

Spamming the lad's email doesn't accomplish any useful purpose. He will just abandon that email address open a new one, and continue his scamming.

Good job educating the intended vic that what she received is a scam. Very Happy

Spreading the word is a major defensive against 419, what i would suggest is that any follow up is directed to www.scamwarners.com rather than here.
Eater members are very switched on to 419 however your average Joe Public would benefit more from an educational site.

I think what he meant was that she should put the email in her spam folder and mark all future emails like it as spam.

It was difficult to tell what he meant. So many people have the idea that spamming the lad's email boxes is getting even with them. Had he said that he told her to filter the spam email, his meaning would have been clear. Smile

@Sheboppe yes spamming is pointless, the lads keep all the info on a memory stick the smart ones anyway.

Wow. So that shows it is GOOD that I am used to gossip my own little stories in my RL surroundings. People here are always demanding updates, "What�s new from...", "Did he really..." etc etc. I hope while shamelessly satisfying my own vanity i am helping to spread around the word among the youngsters around here, too...

Yes what i meant was to label it as spam for her spam box... I gave her the jist of scam baiting and only refered this site to see some of the videos ( i think Mrs. Robinson is the best , she will definatly like that one. Laughing

) and to read some of shivers baits... she is a very nice small town mom who sends me jokes and funny pics all the time and she will get a kick out of the letter archives and videos Wink

I posted this because i thought it was pretty cool that just from bragging to a friend about some stupid crap i wrote in a bait was enough to keep his mom from falling vic Very Happy

The suggestion that was made to send her to Scamwarners is also a great idea. She can read about real scams and victims there, and see what victims go through.
