I have often wondered if these are baitable, any ideas?

I assume it is a type of check scam, where you send the goods to a mule and then it goes on to the scammer, but was wondering if anyone has ever tried.

I'm baiting one of these now.

It's a check scam. They send a list of items that I'm supposed to buy @ Wal Mart. I'm supposed to evaluate the shopping experience.

Then I'm supposed to evaluate the 'ease of sending Moneygram from Wal Mart' for the remaining funds. I have a feeling that sending MG from Wal Mart is going to turn out to be anything but easy.

Curious. I would be interested in any/all websites, domain names, emails w/headers, and anything else regarding this one. (including what they want you to buy and do with it)

I'm curious how this is different from legitimate mystery shopping. I know people that mystery shop at fast food restaurants and grocery stores, and I have done a few mystery shops at apartments. The only thing that seems out of whack is what they are paying and the spam advertisement for it. For apartment mystery shopping I was paid about $45 for about an hour including looking at the apartment and filling out the survey. I would assume the mystery shoppers that are actually buying something get paid a bit less since they generally get to keep what they buy and are reimbursed for it.

If scammers are getting into this, I feel bad for the companies hiring mystery shoppers. It's going to get a lot harder for them to find new help when word gets out.

Thanks Sheboppe.

As a newcomer, it really is surprising to see the array of scams out there. Before running into this site, I was only aware of the advance fee scams. I can still barely believe that a few things I thought unscamable are risky. It really has been quite an education to read through the forums.

Almost everything has scam potential or is being used in a scam.

I received a postcard in the mail a few months ago telling me that the warranty on my car was about to expire, and that I needed to call a toll free number to "extend" my warranty. If I remember correctly, the postcard said that pricing information would be available if I called.

The first thing that tipped me off that it was a scam is that I didn't purchase a warranty when I purchased my car. How can something that you never had expire?

The second thing was the way the postcard was worded. The English, grammar and spelling were all good, but the wording was strange.

Many people have probably fallen for it.

Indeed it's true. I received one of those warranty cards as well, but threw it away because my warranty DID just expire. It wasn't poorly worded, but it wasn't from GMAC either Wink

This "mystery shopper" ad has piqued my interest for a long time, too. A shopping addict girl i'm friends with commented that "it was nonsense, and not worth the trouble"; not elaborating on what had happened - evidently she was scammed and is too proud to admit it..

Does anybody remember the old American Indian "donation" scam? You send them a generous donation and they send you genuine handmade Indian artifacts... Genuine crap to be certain - my grandma fell for that one

I have heard of the Indian scam. Many current scams are new versions of old scams.
