Those of us who grew up in the 60's & 70's were probably familiiar with ABC's Wide World of Sports, and their catch phrase "The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat".

I think I may be able to apply that phrase to my lad's experiences lately, as a 5-month bait draws to a close.
The lad believed he was scamming a Financial Planner out of $25k in exchange for a piece of a $25M bank account.

First, we have the scent of the "thrill of victory", as the lad extends his thanks to the parties involved, believing the bank transfer was just hours away:

Pls, ask Bamidele or I may ask him on your behalf to send you a different account that has correct information. Thank you for your effeort.

My regards to our partner Mr. Clement xxxx. Tell him that I appreciate his effort so far that we are going to see one on one very very soon.
I will be very much happy if you can give me a call.

Next, doubt begins to creep in: the bank transfer is rejected; the "Barrister" questions the name of my financial institution:

Why would this Bank be named Plunder. ?

I reassure him:

Barrister,
NW Plunder & Trust is a small family-owned credit union. Plunder is the name of one of the founding families here in Kxxxx Falls. I am certain they have taken much ribbing about their name over the years, just as I often get asked if I am related to any actors.

Please keep me informed as soon as your bank receives the funds.

Now, realization sets in as EZTrack shows that the transaction is rejected once again:

I beg to disagree with this explanation. I have a friend in Oregon and he told me that there is no such credit union in Kxxxx Falls. Maybe you should talk to your friend. Besides, it does not take this long for internally wired funds within America to be accomplished Its quite less than 6hours.

Finally, the "Agony of Defeat", in the form of a one-liner from the lad to me:

I'm shocked that he doesn't believe me any more, but I'll take solace in the fact that I've taken him down the same road as he's taken his victims, and given him the opportunity to see how the shoe fits, now that it's on the other foot.

That is a reward, but I doubt that the lad will really give a damn. He'll move onto the next victim very quickly with the same old scam.

......The Citi Bank account again, look if you know you are a straight forward person I had taken you for, go to your bank and effect a straight wire by filling out OUTGOING WIRE FORM which will serve as pay in slip.

As alternative, you can send the money via services of Money Gram and Western Union. I can person receive the funds through my account officers. Let me know your choice and I will intimate you with the receiving names immediately.

My "choice" will be to inform him the deal is off because my other investor is not happy with all these problems..... and if he responds I'll tell him there is a possibility of it getting back on track but it will require a face-to-face meeting in uh... Cotonou, Benin... that's an easy drive from Lagos Laughing
