I haven't seen any scammers from the Americas so far.

That is me posing with an American lad. She is not Nigerian. She was in contact with a scammer in Nigeria, but she herself is from the deep South.

So there really are lads from Canada?

Many more than Canadians would like to admit I'm afraid. From what I've seen most of them are romance and cheque scammers, but a few classic 419ers exist in the GWN (Great White North) too. North American lads can be far more convincing, since they are more familiar with the culture and language of their victims. They're also (IMHO) a little careful, since the legal systems are not so easily bought and arrest / conviction is more probable.

It's often stressed around here that (go ahead, sing along) not all scammers are Nigerian and not all Nigerians are scammers. That's because it's very true. While the classic 419 is commonly called the "Nigerian Letter Scam", e-scammers populate every part of the globe and come in all shapes, colours and sizes. Interestingly, the "Nigerian Letter" used to be referred to as the "Spanish Prisoner" scam. Whether or not Spain was actually involved remains a mystery to me, but you get the idea.
