(I don't know if this thread belong here or in "General Chat"; if it doesn't belong here, then someone feel free to move it).

I was reading some of Shiver (and other people's) scambaits, and I came across scammers with names such as (for example) "PROPHET" Bob. Laughing My question is this: when a scammer calls themselves Prophet, what in the world are they talking about? Do they mean they are a Biblical-like prophet (which I seriously doubt Laughing ) or is it a title given to a guy with certain credentials in Africa?

I think they are just using it as a regular first name, just like the ones named Innocent Laughing

Scammers give themselves names of authority to give themselves credence.

Oft quoted examples are:
Barrister, Pastor, Doctor, Bishop, Professor....

Anything really.

EDIT: ^^ He is right, those names are used as first names quite frequently. Prophet and Innocent are common.

I'd not read this very well.

^^^^ Yup, just like "Jesus" is a very common first name in South America, along with Julius Caesar.

Besides that, prophets are not confined to the Bible. Muslims see Mohamed as a prophet, the Mormons always have one on duty, etc. etc.

I just didn't see it as a first name. I thought they were giving themselves some title, and I had the impression that guys in Africa who work in banks and are in a position of high importance were called "Prophets". Laughing
Guess I was mistaken. Laughing
